So tonight is the first time i've visited this thread (and i've read the latter 1/4 of it), and i'm now having a solid comtemplation session with myself.

I currently own a D300 (yep, Nikon...), and am just SO sick of Nikon's lack of AF-S fast primes. It's ridiculous! I've been thinking quite a lot recently about making the switch to the dark side (or darker side), and have been thinking a 5D might be right up my alley. Add a 50L and 135L and I'd have a bloody good combination, for about the same price as buying a new D700 and 85 f/1.4 or 80-200 f/2.8 (which is the body and lens I was thinking of upgrading to if I stuck with Nikon...both lenses being old technology now...).

It's my birthday in 4 days too, which will be good incentive to get rid of the D300 and upgrade all my gear at once - largely spurred on by you guys.

I'll let you know how I go - and please, keep posting these incredible shots! I'm loving them.

Today begins the showdown... my 1D Mark II N just arrived and I am going to match it up against my 5D, which I certainly love. Not sure which I'll be keeping, as I really can't justify keeping both (to my wife). I don't want to give up my 5D, but preliminary shots from the 1DIIN look pretty good.

I just had the same showdown. I liked both, but can't stand the 2-3 fingered interface of the 1D and 1D2 series cameras, makes no sense to me. I don't mind pushing the buttons on top, and I actually like the 1D3, but the older ones just irritate me enough that I won't own another one. This combined with me giving up on shooting birds and sports culminated in the 2n being sold and the 5D sticking around (although that would possibly change if the bottom falls out of the 1D3 used market when the 1D4 starts reaching the masses).

Man I was busy like hell last week. This morning I decided to spend a couple of hrs at this place to clean my mind.

Nice, reminds me of "Lost".

One of your best long exposures in my opinion; great shot.

Thanks Bruce.

Here is one just fresh out the camera. I admit I did a lot of cheating on this. Manually blended 3 exposures, and then relocate the ship from left to right trying to balance the image.
