Default Radio Poppers

Has anyone purchased or used Radio Poppers before? Looking to purchase, but haven't really heard good or bad regarding the product? http://radiopopper.com/

the good thing about it is that it supports ETTL. the bad thing IMO is the price.

Thanks Jerome! Have you personally used them yourself? If so are they reliable?

my friend has them. I've worked with him when he used them and they have worked perfectly. Pretty good range and consistent signal.

Here's an 8-part comparison of RadioPoppers vs PocketWIzards..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJbEsC27Quk

Although those guys ARE listed on the RadioPopper site under "Photographers" so I'm not to sure how unbiased it is.

I ordered PocketWizards (Mini TT1 and Flex TT5), as I like the way they mount more and are slightly cheaper than the PX's.

I had the first version poppers, they worked great, good range, simple to use, missed rate is very low. Just didn't like the way I had to tape the fibre light tube receiver to the flash, and the darn thing was so flimsy you have to be very careful not to pull it off its socket, as well as the tip when taking the tape out.

Bought a few new PW minis & flexes and love it. One thing I like from the PW over the popper is how the mini or flex fools your camera & makes it thinks there's a flash sitting on top of it, so you can do off camera flash with just one flash. The newer popper still requires you to have a flash on top of your camera I believe.

I took a class from Mike & Cody, those guys are honest, top notch shooters, but the reviews are a bit outdated now as PW updated their firmware and fixed quite a few problems, especially the range.

That's good to know, they seem like good people. I enjoyed their review even though I ended up getting the PW's.

I have the Px system -- three receivers and one trigger.

They rock. The plus is that you have full manual or ettl control over all you lights, up to three groups. They fire all the time.

I had some trouble with my 580 EX as a controller, but it works fine as a slave. The 580 EXIIs are flawless as slaves.

I have the Radio Popper JrX Studio system. I absolutely love them since I'm able to control my Alien Bee's power with them without having to go to my light stand. Can't wait for the RP Cube to come out so I can do the same with my hotshoe flashes.

I've use the RadioPoppers and PocketWizard TTL.

RPs work better as far as range is concerned. However, the mounting and integration into the camera/flash system is lacking (even with the new mounts... though significantly better than old velcro). The PocketWizards have worked well for me so far (I haven't used them beyond 20-30 feet).

I'm sticking with my PWs because of the mounting, comparative price to RadioPoppers, sleek design, and the current reliability with my shoothing purposes. I think with the AC-7 (or AC-5) they release will make it all that much better to help with the shooting range, but then again we'll see if I even will need them.
