Default Re: Looking for a case/box for lighting with wheels

The FatMax is working out pretty well for me. My set up is for strobing volleyball and basketball in high school gyms. The FatMax holds all of my equipment with some room left over.

What's in the box?

2 AB 1600's (bottom box)
2 super clamps (middle tray)
1 Magic Arm (in the bottom box)
Extension cords 2 ea 50 ft and 25 ft.
2 umbrella adapters (middle tray)
Gaffers tape (middle tray)
Caution flagging (middle tray)
Bungee cords (middle tray)
Security cables (inside the Bee stg cases)
Skyport triggers/receivers (top tray)
scewdriver and pliers (middle tray)
Electrical receptacle tester (not shown)
Battery pack for hot shoe flash and hot shoe adapter (spare equipment) (top Tray)
Room in bottom for laptop.
Two small locks (to lock the trays) and a 4 foot security cable for securing the box to a solid fixture.

I've taken this to two events so far and it has worked out well. I put my backpack on top of the box and secure it with bungee cords.
The box fits inside the back seat area of my 1998 Chevy truck.

Note: I installed a dock cleat so I would have a tie off for the bungee cords.

Hope you find this info helpful.
Mike

1) Overall view of the FatMax opened.

2) Bottom box with Bees.

3) Middle drawer.

4) Backpack secured on top for travel.

5) Close up of the black nylon dock cleat.

Have a look at the kata palms-2. That's what I've got but not using it yet until I get the dividers for it.

Are you kidding? $500?

The case costs more than all my lighting gear

Looks like the perfect case though. Wait, no wheels.

I use this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

For my this: http://www.tamrac.com/f_strongbox.htm

And then I put my backpack (with camera gear in it) on top and bungee them all together. The Strongbox holds the lighting stuff.

I haven't seen them since.

That's because they're camoflage.

See, that's the difference between you and me, you're in SoCal, so for you it's a dive bag, I'm in Canada, so for me I'd use a Hockey bag :

Note that also being in Canada, it includes a complimentary cooler for the beer.

well...Ive had my eye on one of these for a looong time, but at $200, it was more than I really wanted to spend. Then I got the Calumet email announcing their 70th anniversary sale, which included bags and such, so I checked on the case I had my eye on, and lo and behold, there it was...$70 off...so I picked it up today at my local Calumet...for $130, you simply can't beat it IMHO! The bad news...the sale ends tomorrow 11/08/08.

AWESOME waterproof case on wheels that'll hold all my present lighting gear (except for stands)...with room to grow

Just got home from the TAPPS Volleyball State Championships for 1A - 5A. Great action.
I shot in two different gyms. "Gym" is using the words lightly. They actually looked like small areans like the Toyota Center in Houston, on smaller.

My Stanley Fat Max mobile workstation worked great! For my needs, I definitely made the right choice. Everything I needed was in the box, except for one light stand I had to hand carry into the building.
1800 shots Friday and about 1500 today. I haven't finished downloading the cards yet.

Hardtop, does it come with any foam or do you have to buy the extra foam at $99.

Edit: I see you have 2 Genesis 200s and a 400. Do you get all of that in the case. I'm looking or a case for a pair of 200's. It's nice that you have a store nearby that you can just go into and try things out.

Apollo, yes, I have two 200's and a 400. I plan on buying another 400 when the funds allow. This case will easily hold all four lights (probably five, but then you may not have any room for many accessories...I bought it knowing that I will be adding a light in not-so-distant future). Yes, it comes with all the foam inserts (pluck-n-pull) you'll need...you'll only need to buy the $99 set of inserts if ever decide you want to reconfigure your layout. This thing is awesome, but it's pretty big...some may think it's too big, but I'd rather carry/pull one case around than a few...don't forget, unless you have stands that collapse really small, you're still gonna need a bag for your stands.

They also have a smaller case that retails for $169, but I don't know what the sale price on that one is.
