I left my retainers in a hotel in London... luckily, they were kind enough to ship them back to me. Ha ha! I agree: contact the hotel.

Lenses should have a GPS tracking device!

A lot of people complain on Sigma lenses backfocusing or frontfocusing, but I think that's a sort of PEBCAK issue... It takes a while to get used to, but once you get the handle of it, you will take wonderful pics!
Well I've now tried 16 or 17 of them on 4 different bodies and they all misfocussed.

I am experienced with fast lenses and tested several sigmas under controlled conditions. The pebcap comment certainly doesn't apply to any of the ones I tested (for reference I have used the 35L, 85L, 24L all without issue)

I guess you're one of the lucky ones with a good copy, or shoot mainly at short subject distances where the problem doesn't exist. I've had two that focussed as much as 6 feet from focus point!

Now I remember reading something here quite some time ago about someone leaving their tripods scattered about while in the field. That would be a lot tougher for me to swallow given the price difference.
Sounds like Belmondo.

well, at first I thought mine had an issue too.. but then after shooting for some time with it I realized the problem was me. It's a touchy lens, and I am used to fast-paced focusing and shooting, which I learned it's a no-no for this lens.

Sorry I generalized the PEBKAC, 6 foot is really something not acceptable... Not it makes me feel even better and luckier with mine, considering it would be a huge effort to have it sent to be fixed (mind you I live in Brazil...)

Happy shooting!

I'm glad to hear yours is behaving itself. My Sigma 50mm sounds a little like that - it sometimes randomly mis-focusses but is pretty good on my 5D. I wish I'd found a decent 30mm though as I really like the lens!

My Canon 50mm 1.4's AF and MF died after only two years. It's actually pretty common for this lens, there's several threads here and on other sites about this.

it arrived, been playing with it during the weekend.
Is sharp on spot focus. AF "seems" a hair slow but it could be just a "i feel", no way to notice it.
IQ is awsome and can share my 77mm lens ^^b
