Default Re: POTN G-series Speed Challenge #248 - Tree(s) in a Landscape

Thanks for the comments, Kevan!

The tree is out here on the flight line at COB Speicher, Iraq where things that aren't dirt or concrete are few and far between. The "Fall Colors" title was a bit of a tongue in cheek reference to the fact that there's no colors out here aside from brown and various shades thereof.

Quite a few lovely images of trees (oh how I miss them) in the thread here. Corythosaurus' "Heavy Snow" was a personal favorite.

Congrats to everyone, some beautiful entries this week, well done with your analysis Kevan, I think the comments and opinions of other people are always really useful.

Appalling weather this weekend meant I just couldn't get out to take the shot I had planned, c'est la vie I guess. Roll on next week.

Congratulations to the winner #1 Carolyn

to runners up#2 Corythosaurus
and # 3 Mountain Drifter

beautiful shots

thank you very much Kevan for hosting and for all the comments on the smashing tree entries . what a job.
you were in your tree with this lot
lol
best wishes and prayers for your son. sounds like (and hopefully) he will be better real soon. big problem with schools and crowded areas everywhere

all the photos are really lovely and very special in their surroundings
loved every one and those added on later

: )

really lovely

welcome to newcomers to the forum and challenge. good luck with your next entries

I also loved especially the great and wonderful capture of odd and special specimens, some between a rock and a hard place ...... like Rafaels , Michaels and Landons. wonderful to see all
and..... Paskis14's really tugged at my heart. the title perfect also.

Gee…I hate nit picking. A wonderful scene regardless.

thank you very much Kevan
the (awful) funny thing about that particular spot where I try to get 'even' photos a lot but always fail
the mountains slope oddly either side and so seemly does the lake.
lol
eventually I just try to get the land in the foreground level as the horizon never ever is ....no matter where I stand.... not just for the tree but whenever I take a shot , it always seems uneven to me
and ,I saw that when I was putting the photo in but wanted the surroundings especially, to show
this place not on my doorstep. and its special because its St. Kevin's place (the real one ) lol...
where he prayed and stayed for many, many years

there is so much magnificent scenery in the states and all over the world over here is not any different.
just hard to get to some of the special places sometimes
thank you again

I left the house in because this^^^^ was your wish list at the beginning of the contest. I actually have photos of it without the house
I agree . and its what was in my mind too
lol

that tree is just gorgeous
and the house gives all to its charm....

Congratulations all
Good luck Carolyn
thanks Kevan

Well done all! A big applause to Frank oh I meant Kevan for a great challenge and the wonderful critics on our tree pictures. Congrats to Car, Corythosaurus, and Mountain Drifter for the top places amongst many of us.

That's a great idea. I was having too much fun playing with my current entry and forgot about this one taken during Maureen's recent challenge.

^^^^^Nice one Boutty^^^^ has a really ominous look to it.

Here was one of the shots I was considering as well, but I thought in the end it was focused maybe more on the landscape than the tree.

I actually found a number of interesting trees on this slab of granite, but had a hard time composing them to where the tree was against the sky at all, the ones that had no sky got lost in the rocks. On the bright side I got to act like a little kid, climbing all over these huge rocks for a couple hours And that's what this is about, having fun, right?

Congratulations Car, corythosaurus and Mountain Drifter, well deserved places among a lot of beautiful entries.
Kevan, this challenge was hard to judge! You did your job very well!

I hope the flu is under control.

Rpolitsr’s “living in a hard place”: Now that’s tenacity. What is that brown layer of stuff, where the roots might be? Or is that the roots? The scene if full of handsome rock formations and a wonderfully scruffy tree that looks like its planning on sticking around for a very long time to come. I wish the branches had as much definition as the rock. Nice take on the theme of this challenge.
The tree lost part of its roots due to a landslide that left other roots exposed to the air. These trees heal themselves covering the injured bark or root with rosin. The brown stuff is a great amount of that rosin that slipped into the ground. Yes, the rock formations are awesome, and I must confess that the rocks were the primary subject on the picture ( ) that I cropped to show the tree better.
