Set the Transmitter and receiver used to trigger the camera on one channel. Set the transmitter and receivers used to trigger the lights on a different channel.
There is a delay between the trigger signal for the camera and the when the shutter is open and it triggers the sync pulse that fires the strobes.
How do you change the channels on these things? Do I have to remove that plastic cover or something? I feel like I'm going to break the thing when I try lol..

I need two transmitters.

1 TX for remote triggering the camera
1 TX for triggering flash

Remote shutter trigger:
I have the transmitter on hand set at CH1
I have the receiver that has a plug to the camera remote shutter release at CH1

Flash trigger:
On top of this receiver is another transmitter set at CH2
Receiver on flash unit is set at CH2

When I trigger with it on CH1, everything fires but still dark. Flash is still firing before shutter is released.

The problem is having the trigger for the flash on the receiver for the shutter.
It is getting the same fire signal intended for the camera shutter via the hot shoe.

You have to plug the trigger for the flash into the hot shoe on the camera or via a PC cord to the sync plug on the camera. The camera has to generate the fire signal for the flash.

Lots of reasons..

self-portraits?
macro shots of insects?
close ups of birds on a bird feeder?

having the lighting but still being able to fire the camera off w/o me having to be behind the camera.

The thing to remember is that the transmitter and receiver acting as the shutter release has to be completely separated from the transmitter and receivers used for strobe firing.

The nice thing about the radio shutter release it freedom of movement compared to to a release cable.

And it also overs a backup for the flash trigger system.

Yeah, I have ordered two transmitters. If I am setting lights up with a light meter (or adjusting) I can use the second from my pocket.

And if for no other reason as a back up.

You have to make sure that your shutter button on the camera focuses on half-press. I usually have my auto-focus on the back "AF-ON" button only. But when I use the remote shutter, I have to temporarily change that to get AF via the remote. Or sometimes you actually don't want it to do that.
