Here's a really good site for identifying many different type & species of just about everything. You can also make your own wildlife guide here to keep a list of what ever you have spotted. Enjoy!

I like www.whatbird.comexternal link for birds in NA. It has a fairly handy search tool using different criteria. It has about 900 species IIRC. It can be a little slow, though.

I just wanted to add one site. I run a site called www.MountainNature.comexternal link which is a guide to 800 plants, animals, birds and landforms. We've added records for hundreds more that we'll be adding ID info in the future. They don't all have photos (we'd love submissions), but it already gets some 800,000 page views annually making it one of the busiest nature sites out there. We'll also be adding more details on photography as well. We don't have an insect section yet (I'm only one guy), but perhaps in the future. Microsoft called it "outstanding" and it's continually growing - I can't help it, I'm an ID guy with a camera. Sorry for the shameless plug but it seemed to fit the topic.

Here's one for moths and butterflies--

You should combine and organize everyone's links and put them into your first post so they are easier to find.
