Red face EE 2.02 installer

Before EE is completely gone I would be willing to donate $$ to Pekka to make and installer for EE 2.02!

Anyone with me on this?

Let's REWARD him!

Do we really need an installer?
The only thing missing is an empty EE2 database, the rest can be done by editing config files, and later configuring the contents (ftp, paths, ...) of the database?

Hi,

Tomorrow I will do a complete new install starting with 1.5.4 though to 2.0.4 then zip up all the files from a download and create a MySQL dump using PHPMyAdmin.

Now, if a new database is created in the users cPanel (or other control panel) then the database restored and the 'basecode/SETUP_settings.php' and 'admin/backup/ee_backup_prefs/preferences.php' are updated with the database info will this work?

Any thoughts?

I just did that the other day - I installed the db before the 2.0 and 2.2 updates were done.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

After I do a standard install up to 2.0.4 I will then try a new install using the packaed files i.e. upload files and restore database. If it works out I will post my findings here and some instructions plus the files (if possible).

Incidently on your site are you aware that the drop down options appear in the middle and not aligned? See attached.

I don't have one of my own I istall EE for friends and client's. My wife has one at:

http://penniesgallery.co.uk

I am hoping that if Pekka keeps EE going some interest may resume in these forums. I planning to provide some alternative templates and I have already made a post elsewhere in the forum offering to set up a Wiki for some documentation.

Pekka has created a great script and it needs the support of a few more to help him along. We all have other jobs that place demands upon our time but if EE is to flourish then we that can need to step up a gear. Even if it is only adding the odd 'how to' to a wiki or other type of document site.

Default install of EE

Great gallery!
I like how you did the header with the menu.

Yes, I like EE very much and just recently installed it for the construction project. It will only be on-line for about a year.

I bought Pixaria, to be honest I shouldn't have

Its admin is CRAZY and uploading images is a nightmare. The ONLY reason i use it is because it has a Lightbox for registered users and image can be posted directly to Face Book.
Live and learn I guess!

I've seen some free software projects die over the past couple of years. Die ususally means just that there is no further development. This doesn't matter in the short term but there comes a time when all software is outdated by function or by design.
Unfortunately i'm not a software devoloper but working as an IT professional i do understand about the enormous amount of time it needs to keep projects like this up to date. I can imagine that even if the developers are getting paid a license fee it would still be to much time to do all the work... For example my or rather my wifes contribution to EE, russian language files, took up several hours to build and they are not as complex as EE2.
But who thinks about such things right in the beginning?

I for one would like to see EE continue to be developed and like you I am not a developer. I do not know if there is somewhere out there that a request for developers to support an open source project could be placed.

Pekka has spent a lot of time and much hard work getting here, I am sure that as time goes on he will make changes as needed when servers etc demand it. However, he could use some help I'm sure!

Hi,

For anyone that is interested I have created a package for doing a new install of EE 2.0.4.

Now, before anyone gets excited.. there is no installer with this package. I have started with version 1.5 RC4 and done all the updates to bring it up to the latest version.

The basic install process is easier than going through all the updates to get to 2.0.4.

What you need to do is:

1. create a database
2. import the tables from the supplied file in to the new database.
3. upload the EE files and set permissions
3. configure basecode/SETUP_settings.php
4. configure admin/backups/ee_backup_prefs/preferences.php

Installation instructions are available from the download area. Setting up your gallery instructions however are not yet available so you will need to see Pekka's instructions elsewhere in this forum.

Files can be downloaded from: http://pwsync.co.uk/EE/

Thanks, great work! That is a good solution. I'm happy people still care!!

Do you want to keep that in your server (I'll link to it) of shall I put it downloadable from my EE page?

I am and have been very much involved in coding a very big application which you'll see later, so I can not put my time to EE now. I'll help as much as I can of course.

Hi Pekka,

I am glad what I have done meets with your approval!

People do still care and want to see EE move forward but maybe they do not have the skills required. I for one am happy to contribute in whatever small way I can but I do not understand the code. CSS and HTML yes! PHP no!

As EE is open source now have you thought about seeking developers to join you on sites such as sourceforge etc? If you could gather a small team, that I am sure would cement the future of EE.

By all means create a download here in the EE forums for the files. I have also whittled down the 2.0.4 package you posted to just the updated files for users to update 2.0.2. I will upload that sometime today once again with some limited instructions.

I will when time permits (soon) complete the instructions for the package I created to include the setting up of the admin area and let you know.
