I love Android not because it's Android but rather because i'm the type who believes in Open Source software. It sucks to have to wait on anyone to supply a fix for a major vulnerability when profits are put before the customer who helped create those profits to begin with. Maybe you don't agree with my view but let be realistic since there was a time when Apple was a wondrous niche product for professionals.

Today it's just like any PC with a commercial version of Linux and every Tom, Dick and Harry buys the Apple brand because it's trendy. Then when the majority of those Apple Heads (not true dedicated professionals) get home the majority fire up the not so trendy but much more functional Windows PC. We could argue as to what functional means but to me it means the greatest amount of software is available to a platform and right now the leader is Windows.

I don't really hate Apple for being successful aside from them hording billions (not trying to get political here) that could feed millions of starving families and i've been very tempted to buy Apple before. Unfortunately and this is the honest truth which those Apple devices along with most Android devices are just to small for my needs. I have very large hands and even with a five inch screen i often have to zoom or use a stylus to not click the wrong places.

As pointed out above, you should do some actual research before just repeating what you heard on TV.

Apple is just a company like any other, they exist to make money and turn it into new products and pay the people that invest in their company (shareholders). Are you after all business that is big? Do you believe that big business was always big? How do you think they got big? Unfortunately, through hard work, perseverance and intelligent decision making over a long period of time. NOT by giving their profits away to people who would rather make babies between their TV shows.

Your starving people just need to stand up and they will have plenty to eat. And if you are talking about starving people in other countries, well, seriously? The US spends way to much time and money outside our borders and let me ask you, is the world REALLY a better place? It seems pretty ****ty to me in a lot of places and the places that are doing ok, don't need our help, do they? People are starving because of their own leadership, not the lack of our involvement in their society.

This is an ipad thread, I have one, I love it. It's cool, it's fun to use, convenient, etc. I do not own or like to use a mac computer, however. I prefer to use products that are the best solution for my needs. You are attacking Apple as a company, though, as a blanket statement, which is dumb. Saying you like Windows better because it's more functional, that's fine, me too.

I had an iphone, switched to android, went back to iphone. I thought, hey cool, I can hack my android phone, I can do all this cool open source related stuff but guess what....in the end, the software was LAME. It sucked, man. I MUCH prefer to USE iOS.

Does open source have more potential? Sure. But potential just means you haven't done anything yet. Windows isn't open source, either, though.

You don't want to wait on a manufacturer to fix vulnerabilities? Android phones are EASIER to hack into because they are open source. TONS of suspect apps due to no monitoring/approval process, etc that everyone hates about Apple, but seems to keep their phones safe. And what, when there is a vulnerability on your open source phone you quickly write your own code to patch it up? Seriously? Do you think every one else does that? Open source offers no practical benefit to ANYone outside the coding world. No one cares. People want something they can use without pain, that doesn't make them sheep, it makes them smart.

The reason I know you don't know much about business is because you don't realize people speak with their wallets more than anything else. You go ahead and shout from the rooftops how everyone around you is wrong, where do you think that will get you? Sometimes people think they are martyrs when really, they're just crazy.

For a company that has a reputation of having things "just work" and being very user friendly, it seems they have a long way to go in that department.

The new iPad has a very high capacity battery. It's something like 30% higher capacity than the iPad 2. That's why the new iPad gets the same battery life as the iPad 2, despite the retina display and the LTE capability.

This big battery requires a relatively high amount of current to charge in a reasonable time. The USB ports on a computer are designed to put out 500 milliamps of current. That's half an amp. The iPad's AC power adapter has a 2.1 amp output. In other words, your computer's USB port provides less than one-fourth the power needed to charge the iPad in a timely fashion.

That said... Your new iPad IS charging when it is plugged into your computer. That is, as long as it is asleep! The moment you turn on the iPad's display the amount of current the iPad is drawing is GREATER than the amount of current your computer's USB port is putting out. Thus, you get the "Not Charging" message. But if you leave the iPad asleep, it WILL charge. Albeit, very very slowly.

You are too quick to "judge" Apple when you don't know or understand the situation. The iPad's battery is a big sucker and it's not possible to charge it at an acceptable rate of speed through a computer's measly 500 mA USB port. The battery in an iPhone or iPod is minuscule by comparison.

The ipad requires a 10 watt source in order to charge. Normal USB ports do not put out enough juice, so that is why th OP is seeing an error. The best way, and really the only way, to charge the iPad is with the wall plug that came with it.

I believe the OP is having a bad experience because he refuses to use the iPad as it was designed. As others have said, iTunes is needed to get the most out of the device and to have it work properly. By refusing to use iTunes, the OP is creating his own set of problems. If he would read the manual and use the device as it was designed, he would find out that it works quite well.

This thread has not let me down. OP is too closed-minded and too unwilling to change even though such a change (iTunes, for starters) would make OP's experience with his new product better.
