That is flat out incorrect, my comments in this thread where budgeted and based upon this statement by the OP, “I know the professional TV shows use $1000+ mics...but my budget is under $200. Prefer something under $150 but I also want quality one's as well.... Any advice is appreciated...thank you.”

Now based upon that statement would the following not apply?

The OP has an understanding of the cost of professional audio, and the OP has a limited budget for his projects

Quote:
When in fact some people do have that kind of money. Look at BenR as an example and he's not the only one. Look at all the L glass in people's signatures here.

Leaving Ben totally out of the picture, just because someone has a laundry list of L glass in the tagline doesn’t mean they own a single piece of it.

Quote:
That stuff costs real money so don't tell me most here have no money to spend.

Never said they did…

Quote:
Cameras, still or otherwise are fun toys in most people's hands. Most here are not in fact trying to make this a living with these cameras, but a simple recreational hobby.

That’s understood.

Quote:
Some have dreams of making a great family video and they want great audio to go along with a nice image. Not everyone here is a struggling film student to think otherwise is just silly.

Again I never made that statement.

Quote:
Some people here want to use wireless systems, so why not talk about those too? I'm not telling people how to spend their money.

If you could have recommend a decent wireless system for under $200 then it would be relevant, offering a $500 solution to a person with $200 or under, is like offering a parched man in a desert an empty glass and telling him this is what he needs.

Saying that I am bragging and making this about me is really not necessary nor is it the truth. The same bragging statement could be made of you saying that it's not your job to actually work, I find that sort of offensive. I actually like to work.

It’s not bragging and I actually do like working, if I didn’t pushing 60 I would have retired years ago, and as for the “it’s not in my job title” comment that is 100% true, my job when I am not working solo and it is a tough one to do (as I have a tendency try and have my fingers in everything), is to oversee the project, and it seems more often then not every time I get involved in the work I miss a screw up or two, and being an old school manager the majority of the time I cannot blame the person who made the mistake for my lack of oversight, the blame lands on me.

Quote:
You and I don't see eye to eye on many things, but I do think there are many areas where we can agree.

And that is good, because too much “think-a-like,” becomes a boring good ole boys club where new members are hazed for what they do not have or know.

Quote:
I'm willing to see your side and understand your love affair with wired mics.

Hey that’s what happens when you fall in love with her, and I can understand you being a few years younger than I have the hots for wireless.

Quote:
People here all want the type of sound that they hear on their favorite movies or TV shows

Never make that assumption, there are many links of videos in this sub forum in which the audio is so bad it will make your eyes water and your ears bleed.

But lets leave it at this Wayne. We disagree. I think you assume too much and you think the same of me. I don't know you and you don't know me.

Unless you want to hash this out, yet again. I'm done. I'm not going to counter any of the less than accurate and assuming statements made by you in that last post of yours. I will say this. You are not fully right and neither am I. Somewhere in the middle is more like the truth.

I just want to know this though, why leave Ben out? Is he not a memeber here and part of this community?

Because you dropped the name, and I not knowing that person, wanted to build a wall between my comments which must stay between you and I and should not drag a third party into…

I just sent a person to Africa with a T3i and a Sennheiser MKE300. The audio quality she came back with is great. You can see and hear it HERE.

Not quite. He didn't mention that the Videomic Pro has a two setting level control - a -10 dB attenuator for loud environments and +20 dB boost for quiet environments and to compensate for the low quality preamps found in DSLRs. For this feature alone, I would go with the Videomic Pro and not bother with the original Videomic; it really comes in handy, especially if you don't have a bona fide preamp like a Beachtek or Juicedlink. The Pro also has an 80 Hz high pass filter to reduce low frequency noise. Not sure if the original Videomic has this feature.

I own the Pro and am quite happy with it for my very amateur video adventures, but it's definitely not pro level, despite its name.

Snafoo, thanks for pointing that out. I meant to mention that about the VideoMic Pro, but got side tracked by other details and forgot to go back and fill that in. That is a very nice feature to have!

I don't want to resurrect this thread, but I just obtained a Rode VideoMic, and it absolutely kicks ....
Great quality and a not so big size!

I have a 5D Mark II rig. I also have a Rode VideoMic Stereo and NTG2. The Canon has a pretty poor preamp built in. Had to go to a Riggy Assist RA333 by Juiced Link in order to get acceptable results. Cost $469, way over the OP budget.
