Well then, with dual layer blu-rays pushing 50GB of data, those industry experts better start predicting how the bandwidth to every household is going to be increased to handle the 100GB+ per movie for a 4K, 7.1 movie. Im pretty sure they are going to have to come out with some new medium as the 4K TVs are already coming out and the public will start wanting

The fact is that except for the 5% of extreme movie buffs, most people won't care. Most online video streams at 720p at 3Mbps right now and that suits the general public just fine. The next "high def" disc format is going to be for the kind of people that would have had a LaserDisc player in 1991.

Now we are off topic, sorry!

You might be right, but the 4K TVs are coming and that 720P res just isnt going to look nice. You are correct that the average person doesnt know any better, but theyll learn quick like when we went from 480P to 1080P and CRTs to LCDs. Once they see a 4K TV with a 4K signal and more 70"+ TVs theyll all want it. Heck even the DSLRs will be shooting 4K next round! Ill be at CES again this year and rumor is its all gonna be about 4K.

4K on a huge screen will be awesome, but most people can't afford a 70" TV of any resolution, let alone have the room to enjoy it. Most will be in the 40-50" range and it has already been shown that people can't discern the difference between 720 and 1080p at those sizes. So again, 4K is just for the few rich guys that would have bought laserdisc back in the 90s!

What they really mean is that we're all going to be plugged into the Matrix and we just don't know it yet.

I wasn't really thinking of the new Quarts glass as a new medium to replace BR discs. I was just thinking of it as a new medium to replace tapes for archiving. I found it interesting that it can withstand two hours of 3500 degrees Fahrenheit and not loose data
