Agree with you Russ but I still think if you wanna test a camera particularly for noise performance, you have to go darker than that place.

I'm only talking for that particular video. I'm sure the 7100 can perform in low light as good.

I totally agree with Vinz here. Shooting hockey is not the place to test noise. It may well be a great camera for noise, but even my 60D was able to shoot hockey at 12,500 because noise just does not show up on white ice like it does in darker backgrounds.

i just think that its a fair enough test for any body in the respect that shooting any indoor sport sucks the lighting isnt ideal but i will agree that this isnt a dark corner for absolute low light i just know that the lighting in the arenas and ice rinks arent the best. was this the most ideal place to get lowlight noise issues? probably not but again its not the most ideal conditions either.

i just think for what it was it was a good test not saying mind blowing or anything but it was decent and i dont think the test was a tad one sided too in the regards to glass many average people that will buy this camera will not be buying the 80-400 so the scales were tipped there as well but again i mean indoor sports is still not the ideal lighting conditions but its no the the dark corner of an alley either. so its mid way and its reasonable to thing for those that could afford the lens and do shoot indoor sports will have fine results and its really cool that the 60d could be push as nicely, it will be nice to have more tests out there soon though.

Aside from the lighting on top of the arena, the ice they're skating itself can be considered one the biggest reflector in the world. it's like a gigantic softbox. IMO.

Maybe they should have done their test on cleaning products.

VINZ TEST

for those who are thinking of spending 900$$$ for the 135L, think again.

I shoot the chair to fill up the entire frame almost exactly the same. Distance from subject to background are the same. I just moved back and forth to frame it identically.

It seems they have identical bokeh or subject isolation capability. the 85mm has a little less DOF because it was taken at 1.8. if you notice on the 135 the bench in the background is a little more distorted.

in the 85 you will be more connected to your subject since you're closer to them. unless you need the extra reach, 85 is an excellent contender. if the 85 f1.2 is priced the same as the 135L, it will be in my hands for sure. it's ridiculously overpriced.

so why spend 900? hmmmm

here with 85mm at F2 | 1/80 ISO5000

sharpness the 135 wins obviously.
