Female Downy Woodpecker

I found her in a densely wooded area and mostly shot at 3200 ISO thus losing some detail.

Thanks Sharon. My favorite too. They always seem to surprise me by flying into a tree near to where I am.

Don I particularly like the first image as it has fewer distracting branches

I am going to play devil's advocate here. The bill on this bird is quite large, larger than I would expect on a Downy. Also, the outer tail feathers look completely white, without any marks or barring. Could this possibly be a Hairy??

Just throwin' it out there.

Thanks Lillian. I've seen quite a lot in Florida but not so many here in Ontario.

I agree Stephen and would prefer there to be no distracting branches. That was a dense area of the woods and I was lucky to get the shots I did. Maybe next time.

You could be right Mark. I have no idea of the differences. Apparently the Downy is the smaller of the two but it's difficult to tell the actual size.
