I am travelling to Osaka Japan next year to watch the chery-blossom in the beginning of April, for about 7 days.
From around the web, I can only found suggestions to stay there for about 3 days max, and to travel to the nearby cities on the rest of the travelling period. Appreciate your advise of the best place to visit within and around Osaka (more on panoramic pictures). I will be travelling with my wife and two sons (1 and 2 years old).

stay near the osaka main train station. shisaibashi is a gd location to shop, stay and eat. go to Kyoto from osaka. best if you can stay a few more days in Kyoto. pic wise, Kyoto is better.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Will try to stay more days in Kyoto but the hotels are not ready for booking yet.

Sorry to reply to an old post... I live near Osaka... check if the Himeji castle still in renovation... this is probably the best Castle in all japan and at 2 hours of train from Osaka. Very nice place to go.
In Kyoto I usually go to the big mountain temple, the Silver temple (oldest in japan, amazing garden, but the temple itself is really small) and to the Golden temple (the classic one!). But of course I think there's a lot of other stuff to discover! Nara is nice too. There's a gigantic Buddha inside a temple there and a lot of deers. |

Going to Nara with small children might be a little iffy. Some of those deers are quite frisky.
I too would suggest, for photography reasons, to go to Kyoto. The main parts of Osaka are very much like Tokyo, or any other city. One thing that I suggest you guys do is to go to the Kaiyukan if you're interested in spending some time in an aquarium! Loads of fun, even for young adults like my brother and myself. If you can also swing by Miyajima, there are some really nice photo ops there. If you hike up the mountain a little bit, even better! |
