Default A "Dah" moment

I shoot with a 1Ds Mk III which is not known for it's superior AF abilities. Shooting BIF images with this goal has been very challenging

This cheap, simple attachment would appear to be a godsend for keeping those birds within the FOV. http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAbou.../document_view

I use a laser reticle sight. Made for a gun and adapted to a hot-shoe. Got it off of ebay for about $30. Works great.

Thats pretty cool.
I have never seen a red dot on a camera before.
I have one on my AR 15 and I have seen them on open pistols
neat idea.

Scopes, sights, and tripods all make photographing BIF more difficult. It is much easier to develop your acquisition, tracking, and efficient shooting skills and then shoot hand held without any additional hardware.

If I had the same steady hands that I had 30 years ago, and the 400mm f/5.6 had IS, I would agree with that. Maybe my skills will improve with practice and I can get to the point where hand held beats tripod mounted, but for now, I get a lot more keepers this way. Even hand held, the laser reticle sight makes acquisition much easier.
