Default Canon EOS XSi Card Repair?

Okay, first post here on the forums.
I got a XSi that I've had for about 5 months (2nd owner), and I think I've hit rock bottom:
To make a long story short, my camera can't read any of my memory cards. When I have a memory card inserted, once I turn my camera on, it says "Card not formatted. Format card with this camera." Taking photos is disables from then on. When I try to format it through the Menu settings on my XSi, it freezes. When I don't have a memory card inserted, my camera displays "No card" but I am then able to take photos, but obviously can't save.

I called Canon's Repair Center, and they said it'd take $190 to repair it. I don't know if I should repair it, or sell my camera for parts and save money for a new one? HELP PLEASE, I BELIEVE I CAN FIND MY ANSWER. Thanks in advance!

You're not going to get a lot of responses, because this is in the wrong section.

Buying a used XSi would be a bit more than the repair cost, so no, I don't think it's worth getting repaired. I'm not sure how much you could get for parts, but I'd put the money towards a new or newer used body.

Sounds like a missing or shorted pin in the card reader, which is a rather easy fix.

Yes, I have. Still doesn't work. Tried it with both my memory cards.

Sounds like it is, but then again, I know nothing about Canon repairs :<
Do you know anyone that can service my camera for cheap?

My XS just started doing this as well; $190?! That seems almost criminal to charge that much!

Yes, a robbery indeed. So anyone know of anywhere/anyone that I can go and get it repaired?

Maybe if you actually sent it to Canon for a quote instead of calling, the price would be lower, since they can check what's wrong before giving an estimate?
I don't know.... Good luck, though, hope it works out well!
