You got few replies because of the lack of information. You didn't say if you're a pro. You didn't say if you were the pro at the wedding. You didn't say your regular price.

I'd have printed them for free if I was a working wedding photographer and they were someone who could refer me business. Other my usual price for an 8x10 is $40 and I sometimes discount duplicates.

I'm basically a nature photographer just getting into event photography, including wedding receptions. I have had experience with weddings and portraits but they're not my thing. I prefer going with just candids these days. There is much less stress. I'd call myself a semi pro. They did have a regular photographer but whether he was a pro or not, I have no idea. There are many photographers around here that call themselves pro but their work doesn't prove it. I typically charge $27 for an unmatted 8 X 10 print of wildlife, but wildlife photography entails a lot more expense when you consider the miles involved. I'm now thinking of charging $13.50 per print, 1/2 my normal price and letting him know he's getting them for half price with the hopes he can eventually send some business my way. The owner and I are acquainted as I used to have his credit card business and I have dined at his restaurant a few times.

Thanks all.

$13.50 is pretty low IMHO.

Was talking about this last night with someone who did wedding photography a long time ago, he said if it were him and the catering company worked a lot of weddings, he would hand them over free with a heap of business cards and try to make a good contact. Could be worth more than $37 if your trying to move into the wedding business

I'm going to charge him $40.50 AND hand him a heap of business cards.

Haha. What I meant was handing him business cards and saying to him something like "I would normally charge $xx(x) for these but I am moving into wedding photography and would really appreciate if you would hand these out to anyone you know, in the wedding business or otherwise, instead of payment".

I'm sure you can come up with a better sentence but basically he will feel like he received $100 of photos for free and you'll have much more of a chance of him handing them out. It would only take one referral for it to be worth it. If you charge him $40.50 I think it will be all settled in his mind.

If you do charge, my final suggestion would be to charge $40 not $40.50. It may seem like nothing, but $40.50 seems like a calculated rack rate, whereas $40 could seem like you gave him a discount.

Food for thought

And now I'm really curious what your suggestion was!

That is a good point. That way he's really getting the prints for LESS than 1/2 price.
