Default How do I control my Elph 110HS?

I bought it because it's small, well-made, and it has a lot of cool features, but I just can't seem to find a way to force shutter speed. I don't care for AV, and I realize a hack isn't available yet (CHDK), but there has to be a way to utilize the camera's 1/1600 shutter speed while setting ISO (it lets me set a firm ISO in program mode).

Is there anyone out there who can give me advice about getting the shutter speed up? The camera is capable (per specs), but there isn't even a sports mode on the darn thing. It's hit or miss with the so-called smart auto features, etc.

Stupid camera! Wish someone would get the hack together.

Thanks for any insight.

I have to believe it has a kids and or pets mode, that should be same as sports, that in combo with high ISO should do the trick. Remember CHDK shutter speed override isn't auto metered you would have to use trial and error for exposure. You could also force the ND filter off but the cameras meter also doesn't know you have set that and could overexpose.

Most old 35mm film cameras had a max shutter speed of 1/1000 sec. why do you need something as fast as 1/1600 sec. it's a short zoom 1/500 should stop most action, or you can pan or use your T2i. you got it as a walk around camera not to chase kids

Yeah....no. Can't paint.

I'm trying to mellow out a bit on the equipment thing. Although I talk a lot I did make a personal milestone of having the same camera for two years (T2i) and am in the mood to keep it longer (I can't complain about it....it's a great camera).

And I suppose I'll get used to a point a shoot that's pretty much mostly auto. It takes ok posed pictures. It just can't handle fast motion very well. But I'll eventually prevail.

It got my daughter's dog pretty well.

And this one turned out ok.

Besides, the thirty day refund period is over, so I'm sticking with it.

Have you tried the High Speed Burst mode for action shots? Canon says;

High-Speed Burst Mode
Capture amazing action shots like the pros with the PowerShot ELPH 110 HS camera. Using High-Speed Burst mode,* you can shoot at exceptionally high speeds - 5.8 frames per second. It's a great feature for those who enjoy taking pictures at sporting events. High-Speed Burst is also an excellent way to make sure you capture that perfect instant in time when shooting any moving subject.
