Default EBOOK SOFTWARE?

Looking for very good ebook software in order to make photo ebooks. I've looked online of course and there are many. Anyone here have any expertise and/or advice on this subject?

Thanks.

Questions to help you narrow down your search:

1. What is your target platform? Are you aiming for tablet devices, or computer?

2. What are some of the design, layout, and editing software that you already use?

3. What is your goal with your ebook?

Honestly I think just going with a PDF would be the easiest method. Adobe's software tends to be considered the best among the few people I know who do serious work, and I really don't know how other options stack up against it, but I do know there are some open source (no cost to you) options. Open Office can save to PDF, but I haven't really looked at how powerful their tools are in that area.

PC or Mac?

If your on Mac, you can create photo books within the supplied app, iPhoto.
Just chose images, layout and the export as PDF

From what I've been seeing it looks like Photoshop is the best way to go. I was hoping for something more 'turn key' but have not found it. Thanks!

Ron I found your post searching the web with Bing, thought I'd join this forum as I'm a long time Canon man and see what you found out. I'm working on PC, I plan on publishing myself thru my site. What I need is something turn key too. I want to show 100 images or so with several chapters of text.
I too, like you, have spent some consiiderable time researching. What I find is a lot of turn key not specifically for photographer, and thier user agreements confuse me, in other words I don't know if I own the book after using thier software to create it. I'm looking hard at Adobe, I'm a long time Adobe man too. In Design looks to be the best choice but I saw where a new version of Lightroom might have ebook templates. In Design might as well but I can't find that info. So Ron if you found something please clue me in, I'll do the same for you, good luck, Jeff.

Thanks guys. I ended up going with In Design 6 as it does everything I need. The learning curve is big but it'll be worth it. Only $29/month for Adobe Creative Cloud and I get all the programs I'll ever need.

In Design can convert to all formats, which is what I really wanted. I have ebook software that is easy to use but is not compatible with Ipad, etc.

Hey Jeff, In Design looks like the ticket. Lightroom uses Blurb for their ebooks. In Design gives you all the control and flexibility you'll ever need. Now to find time to learn this puppy.

This might help if you decide to go down the InDesign path. Terry White recently did a tutorial on this.
