I agree that using flash indoors is a big no-no many places.

However, I use fill flash in almost all of my relatively close up people photography.

IMO, fill flash and being careful of background clutter are two things which separate amatuer and pro style shooting...

And I agree. So if he is not doing much portrait work and mostly shooting architecture/travel-y photos, the flash is a big thing to carry around if it won't be used very often.

Second that. Been to London and Paris many times, in fact came back from Paris just a couple of weeks ago. In my view, unless you really want to take photos of chimeras on the Notre Dame, there is nothing to use a telephoto for. I took my 70-300 with me once, and it was just a heavy load in the bag. In those cities all I need is my 17-70 for about 80 percent of the shots, and the rest is done with the 10-20.
