I just received an adapter for my 135l, so I may try that tonight and see what that does to magnification/focal length. I'm definitely not an expert on the subject so maybe others can chime in. I like the results thus far.

SunshineRose, the 100 is great for both portraiture and macro. there are countless pictures in our galleries by talented people here who have made this lens work wonders. The Canon 180 is also a good lens, but it is heavier, the focal length is not as easy to manipulate for portraiture and the max aperture is 3.5
Anyway, i would say that you can add that reviews opinions to your arsenal, but don't let it override all the positive and glowing ones which say the exact oposite. The 100 USM f2.8 and the 100 IS are excellent lenses

I just noticed that there is a 72mm Canon 500D for sale over at Photo Camel in their Marketplace section. The guy want $99 for it. I have a 72mm and use it occasionally on my 180mm macro and also on my 70-200mm f 2.8 with a stepup ring. It works very well for flower photography on the 70-200.

I've orderered the 100mm F2.8, not the L, but I'll get my feet wet with this one and see if I feel I need the L. I'm guessing this one will be satisfactory for someone just playing with macro. Thank you to everyone for all the input, it has been invaluable.
