You keep mistaking me for a lawyer. I just get very very annoyed with pandering politicians. This bill is nothing but pandering. Would it have changed anything about the original event? No. It wouldn't. What he did was already illegal. Pandering, and worse, pandering to people's irrational fears.

What he did was only illegal if he was successful in getting video of private parts or of the kids having sex. If the police cannot find any footage from the camera that actually shows private parts then he did not violate the existing law and he will walk on this.

People have an expectation of privacy in a bathroom. If it is not illegal, then that should be, but it shouldn't matter if it is a child or an adult. However, the bill as worded in the original linked story doesn't give specific terms, and instead is very broad.

Then a serious politician would tighten up the existing law. A pandering politician would grab headlines playing to parents' fear and paranoia.

OK guys, let us not wander any further down the path of politics.

You mean he would introduce a bill that adds a clause to the existing law that closes the loophole, making it illegal to video or photograph children in any location where privacy can reasonably be expected?

Agreed. That is the only issue I see with the proposed law.

In what way is it "very broad?"

No (but you knew that and were just be a smart ass). The focusing on children is the pandering and fear mongering, not to mention the overly broad law itself.
