This is FANTASTIC NEWS!!! Michael you can always post here regardless of brand!

I haven't had a chance to shoot any HDR stuff yet, but I will (this little thing can autobracket up to 7 shots in 1 stop increments if I want), and when I have something worth posting I'll post it.

Thanks everyone!

Michael

Congratulations Michael, Im glad you got a great job and a camera that you are happy with. Looking forward to seeing some of your photos with it. I checked out your website and I really like the places you have photographed and the results you got.
Bodie was interesting.I named my dog after that place although I haven't made it there yet. Drove by it a few times now on my way back from Tahoe but never took the turnoff.

Good Luck!

Well, there was a problem with the lens on that camera, so I returned it for a refund. I'm back to no camera for now until I decide what I really want. I think what I want is a Canon EOS-7D or an EOS-5D MkII, but I'm not sure. Probably a used 5DII.

Glad you're back, and with a job. Dont worry about the brand keep posting - There's another subject area here where the guy's signature is 'My equipment is Nikon, I just like it here' or something like that. Keep posting. I took advantage of the Canon Loyalty program and got a 60D with less than 50 shutter activations on it. They have 7Ds as part of the program. If you cant find an old, broken Canon from somewhere, there's someone in the 'sell' section that has them for $15 or so, or pick one up off eBay. Good luck

Oh man, just saw this thread.

Believe me, I know what you are saying. I was out of work for a long time and had to actually work in my wife's day care business for a while. I'm mid fifties and have college degrees and loads of experience in transportation management. I finally took an hourly job in transportation 2 years ago, at the charity of a friend. But even now I can't get promoted to management. All of those jobs go to people younger than my children.

Good luck to you.

Joe, all I can say is hang in there and keep trying. Now that I am working the job, I see a number of grey and white haired guys who have been working there for years and the company understands their value. In fact, this is a small company (only about 35 people) and I would guess the average age of the folks there to be mid-forties. That's unusual for high tech companies in the SF Bay Area, but it does show such companies exist, and when they do your age not only isn't a negative factor, it just might be a positive one.

I do have a new camera and lenses now but seem to have lost my photographic inspiration. In the several weeks I have owned it I have shot nothing but test shots and stuff to zero-in the micro focusing of the lenses to the body. I really need to get out and shoot some real photographs.

Believe me, I'm happy to have anything at this point. Being an hourly employee has some advantages. The transportation/logistics industry has issues when it comes to certain kinds of people. Hard to believe that sort of thing still exists.

Keep on trucking with the photography. Like any creative endeavour, it has to be right for things to click for you.

The problem is that most companies are outsourcing Unix/Linux/Windows Sys Admin work to India and Brazil. If you're on the hunt for that type of work in the US try looking at Healthcare companies because many of them have FDA and HIPAA requirements that prohibit them from giving system access to non-US citizens, and/or anyone not residing in the US. So they have no choice but to hire US Sys Admins living here in the States.
