Default s100 shooting HD videos

I bought mine earlier this year. Noticed that when I shoot video there would be clicking noises coming from the camera recorded in my videos. This shouldn't be going on yet I've read on other forums that this goes on with other Canon P&S. Has this happened to your s100? Or, is mine faulty. I have dropped mine twice. Shoots photos fine. Not sure though if i dropped it twice after trying the HD video REC or before. I think after.

It's the noise of the auto focus.

The "fix" is to manually set the focus to the needed value, but you'll have to shot all the video with the same focus length.

Eowyn. Will test this out.

Bit disappointing not to be able to use the AF and not get the damn clicking noise added to my HD video REC. I don't think this happens with smartphones or tablets. Nor DSLR's like the 5D2/3. And especially not with HD camcorders. I wonder if this only happens with Canon P&S cameras.

That's b/c smartphones and tablets are digitally zooming whereas your S100 is optically zooming.

The 5D2 doesn't have continuous AF, but it can re-AF with the touch of a button. However, this noise is audible in the movie. Fix? External mic.

You can't use external mic plugged to S100 ? So you have edit and sync right ?

When I get my 5D3...I'll be using a RODE stereo mic or a ZOOM digital recorder placed close to the subject.

What about HD camcorders? Are they strictly digitally zooming? Will likely be getting the HF G10 HD camcorder too. Later.
