Thanks for the info about the ferry. Nice shots btw. How long is the boat ride? Also as I stated before my longest lens is 85 on FF, would it be enough for it?

yeah thats what I've done today. I booked a single room at YMCA in Harlem. It was a bargain at $75 per night.
indeed... good price... about 20 minute train ride downtown... on the 2 or 3 train (express) down the block. A lot of foot traffic in that area at nite so pretty safe.

Yes, BBridge still under construction

Have fun!

hotels. Nothing beats priceline bids.
To know (or get an idea) of what you will win, and cheapest price you will win at, check out betterbidding.com

I know a lot of my friends stay in NJ and bus in and back daily. It works well and hotels near the highway have deals.

I have family there, but when we are just in Manhattan, we stay at one of the hotels since parking is terrible otherwise. If you are limited on funds, NJ is the only way to get a good hotel and get in and out of the city easily.

I usually get Manhattan hotels for the same price if not cheaper than most pay for NJ hotels. that Manhattan traffic is unbearable though! and the price to park is another hotel room

I understand. But it still may be helpful for others with the same concern.

havent been over there since Feb (and the tarps were there then) but i've a feeling they are still there, since it took them from June 2011 to Feb 2012 to get about 1/4 of the bridge done.... yeah, a bummer... but hey, its summer now (almost) so maybe they finished i'll check it out and let you know

Just wanted to do a little sum up.

I spent three nights in NYC and this was really too short! I made a list of things that I wanted to see/take pictures of (quite reasonable shortlist) and I did maybe a third in the end.

I slept max 3 hours each night and i would like to know how many kilometers I have walked in total, my guesstimate is 15 km at least each day!

The subway is great and I didnt have any problems getting around the city. The only problem was always to get to the subway station as I always started walking somewhere and the stations are not really on every corner. The 7 day metro card is a great deal and a must!

I didnt get US sim card, but downloaded two apps for my iPhone and used them all the time - Smart Maps NYC and iTrans NYC. They both work without any data needed and they are just great - highly recommended!!

I was bit worried about my safety when I first started preparing this trip and many locals told me that the situation is much different now. I can agree with this. I felt really safe the whole stay and I stayed in Harlem and was on the subway during late night, early morning hours and never ever felt unsafe.

I recommend the Top of the Rock over ESB and get the sunrise/sunset ticket - it was well worthy!

I had really great time in New York City and I hope I will get chance to visti again!

Here are some shots that I have processed so far. You can high res copies on my website where I will be adding more soon! http://www.tomas-stehlik.com/new-yor...e-photography/
