Has anyone set up their printers profile in Lightroom 4 yet. If you're in Soft Proofing you can switch between Srgb and Adobe RGB. I understand that you can set the profile for a given printer and paper.
I watched a video by Julianne Kost... http://tv.adobe.com/watch/whats-new-...oofing-images/ She clicks on ''other'' and there she has her printer profile. Perhaps I need to connect a printer ? I guess that would be the obvious move, unfortunately I'm trying to process images in preparation for using a friends printer in the future. I kind of assumed you could just manually add the profile. Perhaps I'm missing something, does anyone know? Many thanks |

Have you downloaded the profile for the particular printer/paper combo?

LR is not a mind reader, nor does it come supplied with profiles for every paper and printer combination in the world. You need to have the appropriate profile in your system's Color folder (Windows = C:/Windows/System 32/spool/drivers/Color) which is the directory "Other" opens. Download it from the web or ask your friend for a copy.

Ok I just went to Epsom's website and downloaded the profile, thanks. At the risk of sounding completely dumb. I've got the download on my desktop, what do I do with it now ?
I know I sound stupid but I'm a beginner at this I've never printed anything out before. How do I get L4 to recognise that downloaded profile? Thanks. (Neewbie) |

You need to put it in the folder that I indicated above - if you are on Windows. If you have a Mac, you will need an answer from somebody else.

Ooops! Yes I'm on Mac, sorry Tzalman I guess I over-looked your reply as I saw it was Windows orientated. I have an Epsom profile and I just downloaded Epsoms PDF file which I'm going through.
Here's a question perhaps someone can answere: If I set up the profile/paper then I process an image, save it and give it to my friend. They will then put it up on their monitor. Depending on how their monitor is set it may well look entirely incorrect, it might for instance look too warm/cold etc. Providing that person does no changes they should print out precisely what I see on my monitor? Am I right about that. |

Provided your monitor is calibrated and they print it using the same profile that you used in soft-proofing.

I don't use a mac, but many paper manufacturers include on their websites--with the ICC profiles--instructions for installing them.

Strangely enough Epsom only appear to have profiles for Printer/Paper not solely for the printer alone. It's a Saturday I'll call Epsom on a weekday. I expect to use Fuji Premium Plus Pro Extra Glossy.
Am I being a dim whit here? Their downloads are like this: Icc Epsom Traditional Paper Icc Epsom Cold Press Bright Icc Epsom Cold Press Natural Icc Epsom Hot Press Bright Icc Epsom Hot Press Natural |

That's the way printing profiles always are - for a specific paper/printer combo. And no printer maker will supply profiles for papers other than their own. However, third party paper makers often supply profiles for their paper and the more popular printers of several different brands.

That makes sense but if I want to use an Epsom R3000 printer with Fuji paper can I not just download a profile for each? It would appear not, if so which Epsom profile would you suggest.

Ask your friend to copy and send to you the Epson profile titled SPR3000 Premium Glossy. It won't be exact for the Fuji paper, but it won't be terribly far off either.

Why do I get this fail sensation?
I've always found it more than challenging to print a decent image on my machine to my printer. Trying to set the image up to print on someone else's machine sounds like an exercise in futility. Yes, in theory it should all work. In real life it seldom does. Kudos to a beginner for even trying. |
