According to your own words, the model is not making a contribution to your art. You're just using her for your own benefit...which is why you should pay her.
I never said that the model isn’t contributing to the art. You are misconstruing the statement. I was referring to the time and financial investment in the shoot. The point being made was that I have invested a rather large amount of time and money in shooting, while the model merely invests a smaller amount of time. That begs the question, why is she getting paid by me? A good point was made by a few people about models not wanting to get nude without compensation (other than the photograph), which I concede has merit.

Or at least kiss her first.
I am not quite sure I understand the meaning of this statement.

If your images or project offer something to the model that is worth her time/effort, then you you will be able to get models to work with you for TFP. If not, then you should expect to compensate them for their time. They really don't care how much you've spent, how many hours you've put into planning, or your post-processing skills. You have to be able to offer them something they need or desire.

I don't get the notion of not paying them models, even if it's not a nude shoot.

Your point is spot on. I think the problem is a number of models with no experience or skill are just looking to score money, and have no interest in the art, so interesting modelings with projects is difficult.

It baffles me that photographers think their work is worth so little. If the model is of a higher skill than the photographer, or it is for a project that will not benefit the model, paying makes sense. However, if you are shooting the model for something they will use in their portfolio, then why should they be paid? It is benefitting them already.

If they can use them in their portfolios, you would be right. I looked at your work. Your art is your art, and that's fine for you, but your art is not particularly salable in a serious model's portfolio.

A serious model has a particular agenda she's striving to meet--which, frankly, is more commercial than artistic. Now, if you're going to help her meet her requirements, then there can be a mutually beneficial tfp arrangement.

Another valid point. Perhaps I will have to offer to shoot both something for their benefit as well as something for my "art."

Have you tried any meet up groups for your area?? There are a couple that I will go to, since it ends up being 5-6 guys each pitching in 20-30 bucks for the model, mua. Usually the models are also on MM/FB and once they talk and joke around with me a bit they will tell their friends that I"m ok to work with to include "Time for prints" work

I haven't read any responses yet but looked at your website.

Your modelmayhem pages says you want to shoot: cosplay, erotic, fetish, lingerie and you state that you want to basically take pics of people with clothes on and off.

I am no model, but I want you to pay me for that as it seems to be something you want. Not me.

Just saying...it seems you want to shoot naked people

So I have a project that I am trying to shoot comparing people with their clothes on and their clothes off, and I "just want to shot naked people"? What a gross oversimplification.

As well, my ModelMayhem pages says I shoot Art, Cosplay, Erotic, Fashion, Fetish, Glamour, Lingerie and Pinup. I originally only had Art, but I felt that limited me when models searched.
