My only advice is to try angles that you normally would not consider. For instance, I had zero advanced intention to take this picture from this angle, but decided to just snap a shot from there as I was walking through to another shooting location. It was a different angle that no one else was shooting, it had never occurred to me to shoot from that spot, the sun was in an unconventional spot, but in the end it produced a different look that worked well. It's easy to do this when you are just there to enjoy yourself and take photos for pleasure, as you have no journalism or reporting expectations that require you to always be in position to get that shot that most tells the story of that race.
For reference, this is Watkins Glen, the short shoot exit from the bus stop right before the sweeping right hander. ![]() |

three words....mix it up!
Wide angles work a treat ![]() Incorporate parts of the track into the shot ![]() Try different angles ![]() Make the car only part of the shot ![]() Try a 3/4 pan...hard to pull of, but awesome when you do ![]()

I felt the same way about panning. Now I try to get a panning shot with a little something extra. Moments are few and far between but when you do get one it's awesome.
