Default My 5D mkII (Refurb) From Canon - My Thoughts...

I'm super ecstatic as today my 5D mkII finally arrived at my work! I ordered my refurb camera directly from Canon's website so I'd like share some of my comments and observations for anyone considering going the refurb route.

According to my research everything is the same like with Canon's CLP except the 5D mkII is no longer offered in that program:

What's Included:
-White Canon box (not original box but a "refurb" labeled box)
-New battery and charger. Battery was approx 75% charged straight of the box.
-New camera strap, new cables and all the original Canon software nicely wrapped.
-The box itself was extremely padded and nothing short of what you would expect from Canon.

Upon Inspection:
-The camera body itself is flawless with no dents, dust, or scratches.
-Shutter Count was 48....yep that 's correct only 48 clicks. I was expecting something like 1500 or 2000 clicks so this was a pleasant surprise. It's basically a new camera but hey Id rather spend more time shooting than worrying shutter actuations.

Price:
$1999 plus tax/shipping. I paid $2160 which included tax and overnight shipping from FedEx. I needed the camera for this weekend so I didn't want to take any chances LoL.

Warranty:
Warranty is only 3 months however I might purchase an extended plan from Adorama.

Overall/Final Thoughts:
Is it worth going the refurb route? Absolutely, however each person has to make that choice themselves and do the research. Brand new Canon cameras come with a one year warranty and if you can land a brand new one for less than $2500 after tax and shipping it might be worth paying the extra $350 price difference.

Thanks for listening!

P.S. Charlie Sheen would be proud of me.....

I never bought refurb, but I would for sure...
I just thought it was cheaper. Losing 9 months of warranty for 350 bucks doesn't seem that good to me...

Congrats!! I thought about doing this, but with shipping and tax, a new one can be had for 2250, so I went that route. Mine is 'out for delivery' as I type.

Most refurbs are simply open box returns. I've had great luck buying computers this way. My 17-40 L was a refurb and it even came in the original box. There is nothing about the lens or how it was packaged that would indicate it was a refurb, except for the fact I saved major bucks.

I was initially thinking the same thing, but after researching everyone's overall happiness on here with Canon refurb products, I too, will be ordering my 5D MKii from them momentarily here. You can also go with a Mack warranty from Adorama Camera, which I've already called to go over pricing and technicalities. Pricing is anywhere from $89-139 for three year basic warranty to three year coverage including accidental damage. Seems like a win win. http://www.adorama.com/IMXW3D.html
