I never did see the point of a 7.62x51mm rifle that short. A lot of the powder seems to be igniting outside the barrel.

That having been said, I used to have a Commission 91 artillery short rifle and it had a muzzle flash like that, as did a friend's VZ-33 police carbine. Too bad I never took any pictures of either. Of course this was in the '70s, and computers weren't a part of my life, nevermind digital photography.

Have you never seen a "long range pistol" in 7.62×51? I saw one being shot at 1000x at Bisley back in the early 90's. It was built on a left handed Paramount TR action with a 10" bull barrel by I think Border. It then just had a pistol grip stock. The handloads seemed to be getting 100% burn, but it was mighty impressive to watch/listen to. He also didn't have any type of muzzle break on it. We were shooting TR on the target next to him, and were pretty impressed, since he was shooting V bull after V bull. The V Bull is 10" on the NRA long range target.

I don't know how old you are, but I remember back in the late '70s and early '80s when pistol silhouette shooting was first becoming a thing here.

People started out using Remington XP100s, then (I think) Remington 660 actions in pistol stocks.

Some of them decided that 7.62x51mm didn't give them enough margin of error on the steel rams at long range and started working their way up through 35 Whelan and bigger cartridges... until somebody bult a "pistol" on a magnum length action and chambered it for .458 Winchester Magnum.

On the first prone shot, the pistol recoiled so violently, the scope cut a divot out of the shooter's eyebrow. After that, he shot it 19th century Bisley recumbant style, lying on his side, shooting past his feet. He hit a ram with it, which went cartwheeling wildly downrange. When he examined the target, it had been struck in the front leg, breaking it off at the base and bending it backward at a right angle.

Bringing this back to photography, all of this was documented in (I believe) "American Handgunner". Their house photographer was (I believe) a guy named Ichiro Nagata. His firearms photography is simply amazing. He's easily the equal of the best automobile photographers.

It's a machinegun. The point is to dump a mag and convert money into noise. That particular machinegun, is fantastic at it.

I can see the appeal to people who have never had the chance written all over that girls face, but I'm glad I've been able to have a government agency pay for 90% of all my shooting and miscellaneous explosive fun. Taxpayers more to the point, so thank you all.

A Commission 91 and Czech heavy ball is exciting enough for me. It's like a 90mm RCL minus the backblast.

Loving the smiles, I mean... who wouldn't? Those G3(PTR91) shots are getting me all worked up for FN FAL (FAL SA58).

^^ Love the display of unburnt powder, as well as the resulting smile. ^^ :-)

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

Back when I had a place to shoot a rifle and somebody with whom to shoot, I was contemplating building an L1A1 clone.

Now DSA has far fewer FAL type parts and less of a variety.
