Default Just bought a 580ex I

I just picked up a near new 580EX for $275CAD

I searched the marketplace section and I think I paid a fair price. It's in mint condition, she only used it a few times in school then it sat for years.

Been playing with it all night and it's fun to think all the manual, trial and error I did with my Nikon speedlight, is all done manually with this. Shoulda bought one a long time ago!!

Only downside is that the menus don't all work with the 40d, but that's small time.

Congrats on picking one up!

I own both a MkI and MkII... both are excellent. Even though the MkII is here, it doesn't make the MkI obsolete. I generally tell those who are getting serious about their photography, buy the 580 (either MkI or II) and they'll never regret the investment. It's usually a solid purchase... can be used forever, no matter which Canon body you upgrade to. IMO, when buying a dSLR, a good hot shoe flash should be bought at the same time.

Hehe, I was beginning to think no one would share in my excitement!

Investment it is! I'm sure I will have it for a long time. Thanks for confirming that I made a good purchase.

The other bonus is that the Nikon speedlight I have will work as an optical slave for another angle of light. (manually set of course)
