Very nice thread and a lot of nice pictures.

Should I consider the shots I prefer, Neil_r's first two shots clearly make the list, tiziano's first shot, sparker1's second and third, kennyc's shot and dharris's shot. However, if I were forced to choose the one I really prefer, I would take sparker1's third shot from Coos Bay. In my opinion, it is absolutely, stunnigly beautiful, with perfect colors and interesting foreground. Quite simply, a perfect shot. Even more so, when I consider that according to signature, it has been taken with rather modest equipment, Digital Rebel etc.

And ofcourse, this opinion is not to underestimate other shots in this thread. Absolutely not. There are a lot of beautiful shots here. However, with sparker1's shot, there is just something that I like. Simple as that.

With so many beautiful sunset shots in this thread, I am certainly flattered to have one of mine singled out for such praise, even from one individual. But let's remember, this isn't a contest, merely a sharing. BTW, the Sunset Bay shot was made with a Sony Mavica before I got the D-Rebel. I'm glad you like it.

Many awesome images in this thread.
Made me realise there's still a lot to be done with sunsets. Great idea, Neil.

Wow great shots. I'm digging and seems like I am fascinated with sunrises, but have no good sunsets.

One of the best threads ever. Soo many talented people. Thanks everyone for sharing. Sparker, you know my opinion of your talent, you would take great shots with a disposable camera!

Very well. I confess. I started to give critique in a thread where none was probaply needed. However, that was my honest opinion and this thread is getting better and better with even more stunning pictures appearing from ewerywhere.

Since my last post, I especially like RbnDave's shots, JMAS's fourth, fifth and sixth shot and Aylwin's third shot. These are stunning. Simple as that.

However, not to underestimate anyone, 1goodshot's first has a lot of potential. If the first shot could have been taken a little further down, it could have made my shortlist. I can well see, that it might have been rather difficult, but anyhow. Also, I would have preferred javatopia's shot, if the sun were not in the middle of the picture. Rule of thirds in composition, or sectio aurea - so loved by the pythagoreans' - could have been well used in this shot to make it better. Same thing for Boutty's shot. Well. These are just my opinions. Everyone has one.

OK, with my skills, I should probaply throw my 20D and bunch of L-lenses into some sunset and take a picture of it with disposable camera to learn something... I would probaply not reach the level of many people posting here (Sparker... I would have slept better, if you did not casually mention that the shot admired by the undersigned was actually a Sony Mavica shot... Yes. Right.)

However, I think that I have actually learned something quite important from following this thread.

I think that what I have learned is that a sunset as such is not enough. You really need something interesting in the picture. And if the interesting bit is in the foreground, so much the better. And if a big apreture value is used, the more pattern, texture and shape you get in the picture in addition of interesting perspective, three dimensional form, and colours, so much the better.

Canon EOS 40D and 50D, some lenses with curious red stripes and other gadgets. Previously a very satisfied owner of 20D.
