I have to get back up to speed on the geek stuff since I'm looking to upgrade my PC in the next 90 days. So I'm following along to see what advice Jay gets.

Indeed...I have a splitting headache right now though from dealing with the stress of blocking the bastard, as that involved ATT needing to send a text to my phone to verify something...x.x which is hard when every second the phone is receiving a new text from the guy
At least it sounds like you fixed what that low life was doing.

I copied the data off of one of my boot drives (just for files I might need) onto another computer... tomorrow is the fun task of wiping and re-RAIDing and installing Windows and all programs I need...

On a happier side note my 16GB of RAM did arrive... I'll have pictures later.

I also saw Suckerpunch... not a great movie... but it was fun.

Nite all.
Damn will that blows! At least you were able to get back on track!

If built by Falcon: Approx $2800...

Fire Away Peeps! I'm game to try rolling my own via NewEgg or retail from Fry's Electronics...

ETA: I have three external 2TB HDs that I'd need to connect and I already have a (to me) nice Dell 24" monitor and Klipsch 5.1 speakers.
I'm running CS5 and LR3.X and I do a wee bit of flight-simming as well from time to time.
Jay do you game? I am not familiar with Falon but

here's my take... GPU... I think its general consensus here that Nvidia is better

Power supply, according to the majority as well.. buy anything as long as its Corsair. its a very important part of the PC

btw, I never reached $2,800 w/ my build...

we have the same motherboard, cpu
1set G skills 2 x 4GB ram 1600mhz
1pc G Skills 120gb Phoenix Pro SSD
1pc WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD
1pc Corsair HX750
1pc Evga GTX-580 SC GPU (sneaky GPU, ask Martin haha)

I am at around $2,200 (and considering I am in the Philippines, you should be able to get those at lesser price).

I'd like to keep it under $2k, preferably around $1500. I already have a good 24" IPS monitor and a license for Win 7 Pro, so it's primarily hardware. I want to go with an SSID boot disk for the OS.

I need something that will run CS5 and LR3 without making me feel like I'm forever waiting for the screen to change.

haha well to cut the long story short, he blamed me because he called us up at 5pm and wants his materials to be delivered at 9pm... I said no as I have no more driver left... but he was insistent so I agreed to deliver the said items to him at 7pm (I personally delivered it).

when we arrived there, the Mall won't allow us to unload the materials until 9pm. he then started blaming me for not agreeing to the 9pm schedule and blah blah blah...

he kept talking and blaming me... I got fed up and just bombarded him with words

in the end, he calmed down and we talked and all's well

if that's your only consideration...check out the post above this... LR3 and CS5 almost pops out instantly hehe and I don't have to wait for LR3 photos to load as well

this is on top of my head...

P8P67 Pro - $200
i7-2600 - $250 (if not overclocking otherwise get the K version for about $50 more)
G skills Ripjaw X 2 x 4GB 1600ghz- $100
2pcs HDD WD Caviar Black 1TB 64MB Cache - $90/each
SSD (any you prefer) 120gb - $200
MSI GTX-560 Twin Frozer - $220
if not going dual GPU, then get the PSU Corsair HX-750 like mine - $140
Air Cooler of your choice - $80
Case full tower/mid tower = $140

Total is = $1,510

this is actually almost my initial set up before I went berserk

and ended up with about $2,200

Assembly-7921 by bee_tee_double_you, on Flickr

my stormtrooper doesn't look as good as Martin's Terminator..but sure as well will be able to compete or even one up that slow aging Terminator

And if I want to go closer to $2k with dual graphics cards and a decent sound card?
I also use this PC to steer the antennas and tune the radios for amateur radio satellites. The sound card is used to demodulate digital sat signals.
