thanks guys.
CDS - I must admit, when I saw your first batch of Mt Olympus photos, it reminded me of the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. and we just happened to be going up there over the summer. |

You know I just realised.. this image breaks my first rule of IR photography.. and does so quite succesfully.
Rule #1: Never shoot IR landscapes/scenics on cloudless days. In this shot the "void" of a sky works wonderfully! |

The mention about clouds, sure thing they are allways good in IR landscapes ,
however I think one of the strengths in this shot is obviously the bland near black sky, it actually seems to create a 3D effect giving all the trees & building more punch, a nice range of tones in the foreground water & no shortage of detail & sharpness, finishing with a good solid tone at the base of picture ( always good in B & W, ) composition is just great and you have done well to keep the main domed building just off centre, lighting has also helped I'm sure. I would recomend you get yourself some epson panoramic paper to print this out, make up a cut out overlay mount card, use black the thin white line from the cut will set it off nice. then get a frame. before printing just remove 2 very small white spots one in sky and the other a 1/4" in, on left side its actually part of building I promise I'm really trying to find fault here but there aint any, these small spots would have been retouched with a brush in traditional B & W print. so much easier with our clone tool today. try another version with some grain added and even sepia. Duder finally I'm trying to praise and encourage you to produce more of this type, develop a style, exhibit your work , why not. I judge a lot of competitions and do lectures throughout the year, and kid you not this is a great shot. well done again. Martin (Huckaback Photo) http://www.pbase.com/huckaback_photo |

CDS - unfortunately california isn't great for clouds. actually one of the reasons I was looking forward to a recent trip home to N Ireland was all the green countryside and clouds there'd be to photograph in IR.
d100763 - thanks. Martin - that's quite a compliment. I appreciate your encouragement. thank you. I intend to make a 18" wide print of this photo the next few days. I feel I'm starting to develop my own style of IR photography now, after initially trying to replicate others work that I'd been impressed by. I don't know if you've seen my other IR work posted in this forum, but I'm working on putting an online portfolio together which will display much more of this type of photography. the white spot in the sky is actually a bird. I agree it would be better removed. also, I took a quick look at your galleries, and I see you're a motorsport fan . I'm primarily an F1/MotoGP man, but I enjoy most forms of motorsport (except oval racing Last edited by Duder : 4th of October 2005 (Tue) at 02:02. |
