Is it a good idea to bring around my tripod when I take pictures for my school's Homecoming football game this upcoming Saturday? I'm afraid that it might gety knocked over, since I have gotten permission to take pics from the sidelines. Should I or shouldn't i bring one?

I use a monopod for football since it is so much more mobil. Moving a tripod around would be no fun imho....unless you are going to camp in the endzones w/a 400mm...
My mono was 40 dollars from a local camera shop. |

With the cameras you have, there's no weight that might need to be supported by a tripod. You need to determine whether or not you can use high enough shutter speeds to stop action, given the specific lighting conditions. If you can stop the action suitably, then you should be able to hand-hold the camera(s) with no problem. That gives you the maximum ability to move, too.
If you were using four or five pounds of camera/lens combination (like a 20D with a 70-200 f2.8 IS), you would do well with a monopod to support the weight.

I have to agree with Skip. Maybe a monopod, most likely not a tripod. If you needed the steadiness of a tripod you probably won't have enough light to use a shutter speed sufficient to stop the action.
