Hi All,
This week my G9 died the painful "Lens Error" death and the cost to repair it is not worth the value of it at this point. I am considering the s95 to replace it and have a few questions: 1) Does anyone have experience with Canon refurbished units, specifically the s95? Do you have any first hand experience on the level of testing/confidence level on this route? I see that they only offer a 90 day warranty. Could this be a deal breaker and worth the extra cost to buy a new one? Refurbs are $320 as opposed to $400. 2) I loved my G9, but don't feel I need what the G12 has and I would like the form factor of the s95 better. Has anyone else made this move (from a G to a s95), and did you regret it at all? Thanks in advance, Jon |

Almost everything I currently own is a refurb from Adorama. I'm very satisfied and have had no problems so far. Unless their policy has changed they offer a 30 day return and one year warranty on refurbs.

I believe that the Canon store charges tax and shipping. You might want to do a test purchase to see what the bottom line price is. You can buy a new S95 from most online shops with free shipping usually included.

I got a refurb S95 from Camera World at the Focus show here in the UK and its perfect. If they hadn't told me the only way I could tell would have been that the box had been resealed. Oh and the price was quite a bit lower than usual.
I also had a refurb 7D which had a minor issue and that was replaced with no quibble, so I guess the moral is refurbs are usually OK and a good bargain, but make sure you get at least 6 months warranty just in case. |

Nah, thought about it, but after watching the price fluctuations on amazon and the fact that Canon charges tax and shipping, I decided to just pay a bit more and get the S95 new from Amazon for $369. Not to mention I had $180 in Amazon credit! lol So that certainly helped sway the decision a bit more as well

Ditto on the 5D Mk2 and S95... The latter came like new with the exception of the refurb box and packing. After 500+ shots on the camera, I'm very pleased with my decision to go refurb. After 20% off, tax and 2nd day air, the total cost came out to $289.

Just wanted to give my thought. I purchased my D90 from www.adoroma.com and I have had it for about 3 months and it's still going strong. When I was doing my research on whether or not to purchase refurb, I was under the impression that refurbs are inspected thoroughly by Nikon because it was shipped back to them for having a problem. They fix the problem and inspect it so that the issue would not happen (or anything else for that matter) again. I believe they are inspected better than the new ones, but that's just my assumption. Just thought I would share.

I checked out the Amazon price and its up to $450 new and $369 used. You got a good deal if you got it for $369.
Just got my S95 refurb from Canon last week for $319, with tax and shipping it came to $367. Now I spending a bunch of money for add on toys. Don't tell the wife. update. I scrolled further down at Amazon and found a new one @$349. I guess the $450 one comes with a bunch of goodies. my error Last edited by chispa : 3rd of May 2011 (Tue) at 10:36. |
