I'm contemplating it :P I just need a few more real reasons besides lens availability...

Seriously Canon, WTF with charging for lens hoods and cases still...Also why only a 1 year warranty? Nikon offers 5, Sigma offers 4, Tamron offers what is it..7?!

Serious, Canon needs to step its damn game up on some fronts, produce some lenses that dont require the sale of a kidney to purchase, arent niche lenses and are things id actually want to buy and have the means to do so :/
Canon does not make it's business decisions based purely around your personal preferences. The world does not evolve around you.

I dont think im the only one who feels like Canon is releasing nothing but niche and super-expensive lenses and that everytime some new lens comes out its carrying a >=$2500 price tag as of late

Also the lens hood and warranty is something a LOT of people consider, its nice to have a company stand behind its products, a 1 year warranty is a joke on something thats not disposable :/

Being someone that is new to Photography, I can tell that Canon does charge more for a majority of there products. The ONLY reason why I chose Canon over Nikon & the other options was because a long time friend of mines is currently employed by Canon. So I have the benefit of enjoying some very nice discounts on my purchases through him. My girlfriend is a Nikon user so I still get to enjoy using both products. If my friend didn't work at Canon, I would of went Nikon with the D7000 instead of getting the 60D. Nikon just seems to be easier on the pockets in most situations.

That is not very true.

You're right; they make them around some hypothetical person who hates everything.

Because the large majority of customers I'm sure love shelling $30 for a hood, and having a 1 year warranty vs 5.

Based on what I see at most tourist spots. 50% of entry level DSLR owners don't carry a hood and another 30% of entry level DSLR owners will keep the hood in reverse most of the time while shooting.

It's probably a good idea to have no hood for entry level DSLR because a large hood could cause a shadow for the on-board flash.

I would argue that hood is optional for entry level stuff. Additionally, ebay is selling those knock off hood for $5 including shipping.

Which means it should cost no more than a couple bucks to include them in the kit. Canon is being greedy here, that is all.

Now you're really grasping at straws mate...

The ONLY lens i can see not including a hood is the 18-55, Because the hood for that lens is sadly pretty useless due to the front element rotating around and that...meaning no petal-type hood...

On top of that, one of the big things that most photography folks i know talk about is how lens hoods are very important for most lenses....

Canon is being greedy, its as simple as that...

Even still, "optional for entry level stuff"? Ok, the 15-85, 17-55, 18-135, 18-200, 60mm Macro and 55-250 are not what id call "entry level" lenses at all...All of them are "upgrades" in some way or another...

Nikon's versions of all the above include lens hoods for the record...Most include a case as well AFAIK, I see no reason at all for Canon to exclude them except pure greed

Actually to be fair here, its not just Nikon, Sony includes hoods with most of their lenses as well, As does Panasonic, Olympus, Tokina, Tamron, Sigma, Pentax....

You getting the point here mate?

Yep, Canon has figured out that they can get away with it, so why not save an extra $5 per lens?

BTW: Nikon just officially announced the 50mm. FF coverage and $220. I know the Canon is $100 cheaper, but it is also an embarrassing POS in comparison.

The Nikon appears to have build on par with the 1.4G, sans weathersealing i think...Which means it should be pretty well built
