Great stuff, I need one of those press passes for next year... Not a huge Danica P. fan but that shot is dope and her alpine race shoes are sick.

Ah, well I didn't have a press pass (I want one of those just like you) - I did ante up for the Super Photo Pass, which gets you into the pits most of the time (not for the actual race - but during practices etc).

Since you mentioned her, here's another one:

i hear it's going to be harder to get press pass next year, and unlikely to get better anytime soon.

the problem is that there are so many outlets applying for press passes, that you end up with yahoos in the photo holes, with NO photo equipment (or a point n shoot).

the media/photo pass is also limited to PHOTOS, they were quite vocal at the meetings that you are not allowed to take videos (it gets a bit hazy when it comes to people with 5D2, 1D4, 7D, etc), but everyone out there wearing a blue vest, holding a camcorder, is breaking the rules.

they actually asked us to take pictures of the people doing that, with their vest number, so that they get black listed for future events.

I've got about 40 pictures fitting that profile, but I'm not ready to turn them in. I think I will turn one guy in though. he had no gear (none), stood out in the island at turn 11, no sense of safety, it was pretty obvious he didn't attend the safety meetings either, and he was shooting with a handicam.

^ Hmm interesting. I guess I'm not surprised - I saw a lot of folks with blue media vests who didn't look the part.

I'm glad ALMS / Indy are tight on their media! The biggest motorsport I shoot isn't as tight, and they have an event on the turn 7/8/9 area of the track the week before, and the photo holes are literally 10 times more packed.

During the Celeb race and the ALMS race, I never shot in the same hole with more than 2 other people, and those people were MORE than willing to give me substantial access to get the shots I needed. At the other event, there's typically 4 to 5 people per hole, and in some cases they are literally pushing and shoving to get a better shot. It's horrible....

the LBGP group is a lot more cordial, and professional.. It's great sitting on top of the aquarium parking garage and talking shop with some *real* pros, who were more than willing to pass on secrets of their success, tips and tricks, etc.
