Oh no ... don't ask me questions like that Mark!! I might have to wait for Dennis to check in to remind me what Nigel is. I seem to remember the commentator saying he's the smallest of the eagle owl family ... he's absolutely tiny - pocket sized (ok, so maybe handbag sized!!). I can't find on their website the details ... but he was very cute. The flying display area for the owls was very tricky though - all under the trees, and the cameras really struggled.

I'll post some more pics soon!

This one had a sad story - it was rescued from an illegal owner in Italy with her partner (and many other birds) ... but sadly he didn't last through the winter ... so they are beginning to fly her solo so she can enjoy the company of other birds.

Then this guy below is one of 5 that swoop over the audience - and they're fantastic!

I also loved the black kite flying demonstration. They'd fire bits of food up into the air and get the birds to retrieve it ... several would go in for the catch.

In this shot, the top bird has caught the food - she has it in her beak

The follow up shot shows her transferring it to her talons so she can eat it on the wing

Have taken a break from gardening and xboxing and have gone through my shots. Less than 5% keepers, which is a bit rubbish but the 5D AF is woefully inadequate for this type of work.
Most shots are cropped (need 400mm lens I think :-)) but these are my favourites.

I can't remember what Nigel was either, other than he's been reclassified as an eagle owl.

Dennis ... Lovely set ... Am sure you were more harsh than you needed to be! We'd better start making your "beg steal or hire" list for
