Dang it! I just spent 40 minutes responding to last weeks submissions, and the old laptop I'm using just shut down...all my C&C lost. Oh well, I'll just repost it tomorrow.

Thank you Geno and Allen for your critiques, very much appreciated!

Till tomorrow...

GarryKirsch - Seems a little soft which may be a product of the lens and possibly the crop (if there was one).
Thanks, Geno, yeah I'm struggling a little trying to get my uploads to be as sharp as they should. I do use a budget lens and I do crop a lot (because it's bird photography and I don't have enough reach), but I am also losing IQ because I am adding the border and then shrinking the image to meet the 150kb upload limitation. Any suggestions for how to better preserve the original image quality would be appreciated. Garry

I was having trouble using photobucket (sharpness) until someone told me to check the default setting DOH I reset it and its better but any time you are viewing a 72 PPI Jpg on a website theres is going to be some loss. Even color can be effected by a hosting site.

Allen gave you some good points but another is to host your images on a different site and link them here. Don't do the 150k thing. Flickr, Photobucket and pBase are popular free sites. SmugMug and Zenfolio are common paid ones.

Kristy. - I never win when you're a judge. I do like this shot though. I think you nailed it.
HA! I never received your bribes.... (and Obviously you didn't get mine from last week either... lol)

I really like the color pallet though I don't think in this case those pastels are working with the overall image and statement. Sometime opposites when in the frame can work but I think the soft color pallet is not helping to re-enforce the prickly feel of the subject.

And good job everyone.
Thanks Allen, your detailed feedback on all of the images is wonderful.. I think we can all learn a lot just by reading the information while looking at the images...

As for my color palate not working with the image.... totally out of my control.. lol.. Nature gave the colors and textures I simply photographed the scene. Any deviations from that will have to go through the man upstairs.. perhaps he can remove thorns from the cacuts?

The thing I like about the flowers on cactus like this, is like an anomaly... rough & prickly next to something soft and delicate... Who would ever guess that a prickly mean cactus could blossom such a delicate little flower.. it's a pleasant surprise...

HAPPY TUESDAY!! Hope everyone has a great one.

Geno, agreed. I needed more Dof, and I had room to stop down some more. I've been paying more attention to dof of late, and choosing appropriate f/stops for the composition.

Allen, it is not prejudice, it is only how you read the image in front of you, and there is nothing wrong nor prejudiced about that whatsoever.

In regards to 'selective' color, I too dislike it with a passion. However, this is exactly how I saw the capture as I pressed the shutter release, and this is exactly how I presented it.

I love C&C, it gets you thinking and has you looking through the viewfinder a little differently. Thanks again Geno and Allen, highly respected individuals you two are!

Now its time to retype everything I typed last night; when my old laptop unilatterly determined it was time to shut down. Now is time for my C&C on last weeks submissions.

Soleful---In my opinion this is your best submission to date. I just wish there was some sort of plane of focus on the foreground egg. And I agree with Allen about a portrait orientation as oppossed to the landscape you shot. Still, a darn good shot.

Kenji---Very nice job on the refraction, I just wished the subject in the reflection was perhaps more bold...if that makes sense.

Me---Could have been better, but I failed. Still, I stand by my interpretation of the scene. I desperatley need lessons from Geno...

Gary---Nice capture. To me the bird blends in a little to well with it's surroundings; good to avoid predators. That is my strange thinking...but its still a nice picture.

Victor---Lovely colors with that toy camera , and very good eye for the landscape. Okay, my eyes are digging the first third and the symetry of the nicely rowed wind towers, but my eyes get discombobulated with the other 2/3rds of your frame with the scattershot placing of the wind towers. When I crop-out the last 2/3rds of your composition, I absolutley love it. I mean I love it like 'bangers and mash' type of love...

Gail---I love what your capture expresses between the two pooches, it oozes it's sentiment. However, I do not agree with the Post. This is a personal issue.

Crissa---I just wish there was more subject isolation, perhaps a tighter crop would have been a choice for me. Otherwise, nicely metered and composed.

Harm---Nice capture and conversion, I like me the b&w. Horizon is a tad too centered for my taste. I can't explain, but my eyes want to led to a point but I'm kind of drifting here in the frame. Once again, nice capture.

Mikelangelo---Lovely capture, composition and conversion. Well done.

Kristy---Nice capture and good crop. I'm not trying to swipe Allen's c&c on your capture, but his comments are how I see your submission as well. Except Allen conveys his views articulatly, whereupon I tend to flounder. I would have said the thorns in your picture make me want to carress them them to feel how soft and fuzzy they are...

Justin---I really like the concept, and this is up my photographic alley. I would have like to see a hair more DOF and have the focus plane a little further back. More contrast would be nice. Good effort!

Joby---The master of film, I bow to you and your film talent. Your capture is nice, but I think there is just too much of everything in the frame. To me a tighter framing of just the young lady and the croc (I think its a croc...) would have been the ticket for me.

Jon---Excellent 'on-the-fly' capture. As its been said earlier by others; you have captured a moment, and an everlasting memory for those involved in your shoot. Well done.

Rob---Very nice capture. My only nit-pick is I think the lighting is a hair too harsh on the subject.

Lisa---Excellent sport capture, and very well done compositionally.

Hank---Lovely capture, lovely subject. Your image works better for me when I crop-out part of the right side. Well done.

Hurray, I finished and no computer auto power offs!
