Default Mod a 35-80mm or Reverse a 50mm?

Hello,

I'm looking to play around with Macro photography on the cheap. Which option would be best suited for the most magnification and highest quality shots between a reversed 50mm or a modded 35-80mm?

Thanks!

I find that the reverse 50mm doesnt magnify much, I think reversing gets interesting around 28-35mm

Havent tried the 38-80 trick but regardless the magnification this one will be easier to use due the bright viewfinder

If you use 50mm reverse, it gives you 1:1 magnification. When 28mm is used, 50:28= Almost 2:1 magnification

Calculate yourself... But I think prime lenses always give better results.

I like to use a reverse ring on my 18-55.
That'll get you a great amount of magnification.

Wider focal lenghts reversed, like the 18mm will work great, but it will be better with a manual lens for having the control of aperture on the lens barrel itself

I went down the modified 35-80mm road and i love it, it has 0.8:1 to 1.8:1 magnification and can get some really nice results
