Some shots from various Havasu waterfalls (hopefully not too saturated...look good on one of my monitors, over-saturated on the other)

That is Sandstone Falls in West Virginia ... it's a very cool spot, the falls is over 1500 feet wide!

Same falls, about 150 yards further down.....

My first post here - but an old photo of mine before I got into photography properly.
This was taken with a Powershot A20 back in 2004.

I've recently got myself a 40D, some filters, the loan of a good tripod and tickets booked for Yosemite and San Francisco. Waterfall heaven, here we come.....

Wonderful shot Rob28!! If that's what you could produce before you really got into photography, I can't wait to see what you can potentially do now that you are getting into photography more.

Oh, and welcome to POTN

Most of these shots are taken with filters. You can get that look without filters though by going to your location when the light is low. Here are three shots of waterfalls I took without using a filter:

This was taken around sunset in December in a wooded area without an ND filter:

Another trick to get around an ND filter is to stop down the aperture of your lens as much as possible. This can lead to softer images than you want but if it means the difference between getting the shot you want and not a little bit of softness may not be so bad. A neutral density filter is much preferred over this method. That said, I still got the shot below by stopping down to f22 without an ND filter:

Albion Falls, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada by Christopher Brian's Photography, on Flickr

and this shot was taken with a lens that stops down to f45 during the middle of a fall afternoon without an ND filter.

These images may be double posted (I can't remember if I've posted them in here or not.)
