What's to say... it's a wasp.
Just when I think I'm not a "big bug" guy -- that my insect shots have a little compositional value going for them -- I take a big centered shot of a wasp. I console myself with the fact that this is the only shot I have of this particular wasp. In a banana-flower cave... ![]() Don Photo taken with a Canon G2, Hoya +10 Macro Lens, 420EX Flash with Off-Camera Cord -- 1/60th sec, f8. Wasp is about 3/4-inch (2cm) long. |

Excellent photograph, perfect exposure and DOF.
I usually only see wasps this close when I'm sitting on the deck and they're trying to get into my beer bottle at the same time I am Regards, Peter |

Very nice shot you can even see the stinger! I try and avoid wasps whenever possible they don't seem to like being photographed by me. What do they say.. once bitten, twice shy?

I nearly missed this beautiful picture.
tried to post it last night but the posts are going funny don I never saw a wasp like this one before . those wasps would be amazed themselves if they saw how the photographs show so much of them. close up hard to believe this fellow is only three quarters of an inch long. again lovely colours mixing together thank you lovely to see this picture soon the wasps will be around again here but pretty cold and wintry at the moment. the birds are singing all the time though. non stop best wishes marie

Well my shot isn't as good as yours, but it's of a different kind of bee (wasp?) and it's trying to make a nest on my window sill:

that is one great picture of a wasp at work. that angle which is showing is terrific . it looks like its making a honeycomb but as you say, it probably is making a nest. I never knew they made nests in that type of shape. just like a honeycomb . most interesting view, and very well photographed everything is of interest in it. the wasp/bee itself is terrific. maybe you should put it in the other place for all to see properly ) : why was it never seen until now? even if no one says anything. its worth a lot of looks from those interested its lovely to share this type of unusual picture. I love it. and those in the know will be crazy about it thanks to you and don both for the great shots of these little creatures best wishes marie

Wow!!!
Both pictures are amazing! This is the kind of pictures you'd probably want to see when you talk about macro. Very nice, very sharp, beautiful colors!
