Default Soggy old Castle Combe

A quick trip down to Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire on Saturday for their final race meeting of the year. The annual "Formula Ford Carnival". The west's answer to Brands' Formula Ford Festival.

The weather started off dark and got progressively darker and wetter... so if the images look dark - that's because it was. If the images look fogged, well there was a lot of water in the air!

My admiration for drivers who race in these conditions is boundless.

Thanks Dave, 'twas very soggy. Thankfuly I had some new waterproofs (for me, not the cameras) which worked very well so I remained a dry little snapper.

FF Festival is looking likely for me. Probably the Sunday.

I'm glad I have decent water proofs I can call on, great shots #2 does it for me as you can see the drivers eyes the others are still great even with the conditions.

wow, that is a touch of moisture isn't it? #5 is fabolous and a testamen to how good the drivers are, you can just barely see the car behind him and they don't look that far apart. how they all don't end up stacked on top of each other is beyond me in conditions like that.

i agree with PaulEY, #2 is stunning. perfect backdrop with all brown from the dirt and the other cars fanned out in tow with the leading car in focus gives it that classic racing feel to the photo. the eyes are just cheesecake for dessert after a wonderful meal...great stuff as always Cadwell.

Yes indeed. There aren't that many decent angles on the Indy circuit! I'll look forward to seeing you.

Very nice Glenn. The spray adds a real dynamic element to the shots. Just a good job you have weather-proof gear!

Cheers,
Steve

hopefully it'll stay dry, although a bit of rain never hurt anyone...or made the action boring!

Superb shots in the rain Glenn. The spray etc always adds an extra dimension to the pictures if uncomfortable for the photographer. Recognise some of the cars from the Monoposto series at Croft the other week. Those Speads are a handy piece of kit. Quite enjoyed photographing car 22 (#6 above) as he was very expressive with his head position when braking and cornering. Don't know whether it was his helmet type, if his neck muscles gave up or if he just likes leaning into the corner, but it helps add a bit to the shots IMHO.

Cheers,

Simon.

PS #4 makes me chuckle everytime I see it. Reckon you should run a caption competition for what the driver is thinking at that exact point in time.

Nice work Glenn.
Not only did the drivers have to contend with the spray, most of them had steamed-up visors too!
Looks like I've got a very similar selection of shots - since we could only see the leaders most of the time.
