Took my son and his friend out to the pitch the other night to do some cool action shots for them.

Canon 1d Mark IIn, 24-74 2.8L, 1/250sec, f10, 24mm
Lighting was 3 flashes bare - 1 in front and one behind on each side

Here are the results

1) Riley - Goalkeeper Pose

I love the sky! And lighting is awesome, really attracts me to the subject.

Care to share how you created the "save" pose?? How many shots to get that one?

Sure, it was pretty straight forward. setup was the same as the others 3 flashes on stands with triggers. Camera in Manual with EV of -1 2/3, with main to camera right at 0 EV, other 2 flashes just behind the subject at +1EV.

I had him stand at the goal line, and squat down low, I crouched down low, and when I said go, he would pop up and out like he was reach for the ball (his feet stayed planted in place)

We did about 10 shots this way, and I took the best one.

I added the ball in after in Photoshop, made a second layer of the ball and used motion blur in the direction of his hands, then using an eraser removed the motion blur in front of the ball, to only have a trailing blur, then dropped the opacity of the top layer down about 15% to allow a bit of blur on the rest of the ball to sneak through.

Great work, very unique for T&I. The fourth could be shot from a bit more off axis, ie get more of the player's side and kicking leg.
