hello,

I have a cannon powershot a510, and the zoombrowser EX program, recently an error message comes up and says it "cannot detect camera", im not sure what to do . The cord is plugged into both the camera and port but it still cannot detect it. If you have any suggestions it would be most helpful.

thank you.

Uninstall both and reinstall them!!

Sounds like a software error and thats the easiest way to correct such an error!!!

Drezz
Welcome to the forum
If your using zoom brouser, with lots of files in use with it. Just check to see where your images are being stored to. normal would be the .."My pictures folder" or wherever you decided. the program would not normally store images within that program.
However canon have a set of sample images which you see when first using this software.

if in any doupt just sellect all and save as to a location of your choice.
then uninstall software and reinstall as required.
Finally I never conect a camera always tranfer files with the card in a card reader, much better in my view.

Cheers

is it plugged into a usb socket or a usb HUB?

i have found there is a very big difference - hubs seem to cause this sort of problem a lot

is it plugged directly into a socket in the pc case or is the socket in a seperate plastic box with several other similar sockets in it thats attached to the pc by a wire?
The latter method is a hub - its a way of coverting one socket into four sockets - but they dont always work

This could also be because of the following reasons:

1. A scanner or multi-function device (scanner/copier/fax) is connected to the PC.
2. You have uPNP (Universal Plug and Play) turned off (SSDP Discovery Services in Windows XP).
3. As others already have mentioned, you are connecting through a USB hub.

You might check with Windows Update. There was a USB update a couple years ago that wasn't automatically updated, if I recall correctly. Something you might have missed if you never go there.

Check the pc's installation cds for USB drivers. Also check with your pc's website or motherboard manu website for USB 2.0 updates.

Dave

PS Make sure *something* usb will work in that port.

If its the same as most cameras. you must uninstall the camera software and then reinstall.
the zoom brouser is a separate program.
in windows xp there is a add camera wizard.

I really dont think you have a USB problem as this has happened to me previously, and would not detect the camera.
also make sure that the zoom brouser version will work with that model of camera.

what works with my 1D mk2 won't always work with my D60.
as Dave mentions above plug something else into the USB to ensure its working, a really cheap card reader is the way to go.

Cool Re: error: "cannot detect camera"

I am having the same problem with My Elura85 and all my other USB devices work fine. I am going to take my card out and have it developed at the lab today. Perhaps there is a formatting issue with the card? I guess I'll find out when or if the card reader at the photo lab can read it.

I had the same problem with my A620. Besides uninstalling all Canon software, you'll have to clean your computer register from all Canon entries in order to get the USB-connection to work. Particularly - it's getting technical now! - delete those sub-keys
in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\V id_xxxxx that include the name "Canon". You may have to get privileges to delete the key, so in that case right-click the key and set privilges to 'full control".
When finished, do not connect your camera with your computer but reinstall Canon sofware first. Good luck.

error: "noob on forums"

reading the manual is a good place to start.

install the drivers before you connect the camera.

if it still doesnt work, uninstall your usb drivers and restart.
