time to say goodbye guys & girls although i will keep popping in from time to time

i never thought i'd leave this thread but i've just picked up a f/1.4 so i'm gonna have to sell the f/1.8 & an old 17-85USM i have lying around to finance it......

Can someone describe a camera with a remote shutter, and how it works? Sounds an intriguing device.

A basic (wireless) remote can be had pretty cheaply. $20-$30 and a quick ebay search should get it done - this is what I did for my 5D (body compatibility will vary based on model). It's a nice thing to have, I use mine whenever I've got the camera on a tripod - it's nice if you want to get in the shot yourself or if you just don't want to touch/disturb your camera for the sake of shake/sharpness. If you want a specific recommendation, head over to the accessory forum, but don't be afraid to just buy something - it's not a terribly complex item.

Oh, I do have remote shutter releases, both cable and wireless. I just haven't come across a camera where the whole shutter assembly is remote.
