Default Over-Reactor @ Enigma, April ’11

Over-Reactor killed it at Enigma on the weekend!!

Fearing the worst lighting possible, I rocked with 4 flashes off camera set up in various spots on the stage as the guys had given me full stage access.

Lighting this way at Enigma is the only way as their stage lighting is abysmal!

Full set over at my site: http://www.bjwok.com/

These are pretty sick man! I've been considering playing with off camera flash for shooting some bands at these small bars/venues around here since they have absolutely no lighting as well.. #2 is hilarious and great use of the flashes all around. On another note, if you don't mind me asking, do you generally use AWB and evaluative metering or average metering for shooting shows?

-Thanks!

thanks bud yeah enigma is REALLY poor with lighting, so if i know the band i will always light myself two is my fav - that speedlight under the tv isn't even gelled - the orange of the milk crate gives it the colour. ghetto gell! hahah

i always use AWB and spot metering. i don't focus and recompose tho - never had too much success with that method. i'll use focus points selectively most of the time.

I like #2.
I assume you had to place the flashes before the show started?

How did you trigger them? Ideally, you'd have an option to (remotely) switch some flashes on or off. Maybe by using different channels. First and last might have benefited from one less flash.

Then again, that might be kinda hard to arrange.

In any case, I'd have dragged the shutter more.

thanks rene.

yep, flashes were placed before the shot.

triggered with pocketwizards mini/flex combo (no ac3 zone controller, so no remote changing of power).

couldn't slow the shutter any longer as zeke (front man) moves across that stage VERY quickly. you'll notice some motion blur already creeping into his hand area in 2.

Really awesome stuff man. I have been thinking about setting up something like this for a while. After looking at this, I think I may just have to go for it. I love the ambition.
