Lovely shots, I like the low light shots very much and the daylight one is a classic period type shot, excellent stuff.
Roger.

Beautiful shots... they are steam locomotives, after all

I especially like the first one - any special processing here, or are we just seeing the effects of low light and long exposure?

Very nice!

Biko,

these are awesome shots

At which time did you have to get up to get them?

Best regards,
Andy

Some really nice shots. Love the industrial feel on the first.

Hi pashooter
The first night shot was: Camera 20D set at M, Lens 16 - 35 L shot at 16.00mm. Exposure 2" F4.0 ISO 3200. At some point I was using my 580EX (off the camera) and firing at the locomotive on the right/rear sky upwards to add some ambient light I think there is a touch on this but its very subtle so not sure.
They were shot in raw but no adjustments were needed, I then did a small shadow highlight adjustment in photoshop, and then cleaned up with Neatimage.

The biggest problem was the front locomotive, the fireman was adding coal and when the smokebox doors opened you got a massive blast of light, as you can see by the image below (which is a screen shot from raw preview). Fortunately the new coal eventually gives a nice pall of smoke

Andy, fortunately it was the last evening train.

Great shots. Years ago when I was in Costa Rica we road a steam train from San Jose to Limon. Great fun through the tropical rain forest. Thanks for sharing.
