I kind of like "nifty fifty" simply because "nifty" is so underused in our language.

"Gripped" kind of annoys me, though.

I grip all my cameras when I'm holding them, if I don't hold them tightly they might fall out of my hands.

I don't mind "nifty" fifty, but to me the name "thrifty fifty" would be much more appropriate, seeing that it's the cheapest lens they sell.

I've always heard the 50 f/1.8 called "Thrifty Fifty.". The f/1.4 is "Nifty" and the f/1.2 is "Shifty"

However that trend is older than language.

Are you sure you're not just jealous that we get to have all the fun and you don't
In any case, I wouldn't really call it a trend. After the first few hundred years, I think it's fair to assume, that it's here to stay

very true

i just hate the "let's put a scantily clad women in front of this car/plane/horse/house/nice landscape that would be better without her/cheap ware i'm peddling. I guess you're right that it's not a trend, though but for some reason it just looks so cheap.

I agree with you Sue, It always looks so unnatural and uncomfortable.

"I'm shooting a wedding next week. What equipment do I need?"

People who post a shot in a critique forum and then get uppity when somebody criticizes it.

Faux HDR.
LMAO..Joe, you covered most of them for me
